Are the clampers are making the most of it before the next government does something about them? Or are PPCs turning to clamping because more people know about their scams and are ignoring them?0

Am I right in thinking that most of these cowboy clampers are linked to organised crime?0

Most of the operatives in private clamping operations are just bouncers with vans.
From what I recall the civil law surrounding the legalities of clamping are based loosely on a medievel law designed to protect land owners from trespass by commoners sheep which allowed them to retain the sheep until compensation for damages incurred was received (not sure how they attached a clamp to a sheep tho). The practices involved seem more like kidnap and extortion than trespassing though but as the government must make a tidy sum in tax revenue from this the practice is allowed to continue.
A bit of an old article but :-

Just a thought but what would happen if you picked up a cheap car, took out a "logbook loan" against it then dumped it in a known clamping hotspot and defaulted on the loan?"A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0 -
The Statute Of Marlborough 1267. Still active.

I'm sure the rise in clamping must be in part due to the dwindling number of people who still pay their PPC tickets.0
