Problem With Utility Warehouse

Hi all,
My mother currently cancelled broadband with Utility Warehouse telling them she wanted to keep the phone she also had with them. They have cancelled both and told her she will have to have a new phone number ( she's had the old number for 35 years) if she wants the phone back.
When she phoned BT they told her there was still a block on the line from Utility Warehouse and no phone provider could set a phone package up on the blocked line.
When she has told Utility Warehouse the block is still on the line they tell her there is'nt.
She has been quoted £125 for a new line by BT.
Can anyone recommend the best way to solve this problem caused by these clowns Utility Warehouse?

Get BT to install a new line for nothing - see HERE.
Martin mentioned this again in today's email = http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/free-BT-line-installationTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Was she on a unbundled exchange (LLU) if so and BT were the original supplier before she moved to UW, she should be able to do whats called a return to donor. and keep the original number, and incur no connection charge.
Get her to call BT again on 0800 800 313 and ask for the Customer Options Team.0 -
That's strange. When I was moving property, I was desperate to keep my telephone number as like yourself, I had the number for over 20 years. I spoke to a lady called Angela, who was brilliant and she arranged this for me. Why not call Utility Warehouse and ask for her. I think she was a supervisor or manager in the customer services team. Worth a try?Hi all,

Great news that UW have seen sense over this and that it's getting sorted.
Sorry to hijack the thread, but anyone any ideas about this issue with UW:
Had a freephone number from them for years, since before they became popular and prices fell. It's only £2 per month but the per minute charge for inbound calls is very high compared to the competition. I've asked for a reduction but to no avail. So the only option is to move to a cheaper provided, but everyone I ask says they can't import the number. I have to keep the same number as it's been advertised for years in connection with as small business. Apparently most 0800 numbers are portable between providers except this one. I've been unable to find out where the roadblock is, just come up against a brick wall. Any ideas of the best way forward anyone?
Any ideas or suggestions appreciated. You're either Witham or against'em0 -

They resell numbers from other suppliers EG Opal. I take it you are member of their residential club, their T&C Page 26 saysc) When this agreement comes to an end:-
•
the Freephone number allocated to you will be disconnected and you will no longer be entitled to
use it; and
•you will have to pay immediately all charges outstanding at disconnection
•if we have received notification that your service is being transferred to another provider, and you
continue using our service after any notice period has expired, then you will remain responsible for
all charges until the service is actually transferred; and
•we will repay any deposit you have given us but only if you do not owe us any money. No interest
will be payable by us in respect of the period during which we have held the deposit.
