Alliance and leicester overdraft matching

Hi,

I am in the process of switching my current account from Clydesdale bank to Alliance and leicester (attracted by the £100 switching bonus)

After applying for the account, and being accepted, the automatic message said that I wouldn't be getting an overdraft, although A&L could match my current limit (which is £500)

When I called A&L to ask for this, I was told that I had to take my most recent statement to a branch, and that I would have to have been in credit for 15 days. I was only in credit for 4-5 days on my most recent statement - is it possible that they will still match my overdraft?

Need to save up, lose weight, reduce my money worries and get back to being the real me! :j

Unlikely, if reports on here are anything to go by.

You could try taking your last 3 or 4 statements in to paint a better picture...if there is one?

Interesting that you should say they said 15 days, because (if memory serves) they only used to ask that you were in credit for 3 days.

As a general point, and assuming you're paid monthly, why not shift your outgoing payments, ie DDs/SOs, back a bit to reduce the number of days you're overdrawn?

Not sure what I can do, therefore, if they fail to match my overdraft. After you apply the first time, you do nothing, and the process of switching accounts just seems to occur. They have already sent me out a bank card and account details.

I'm guessing I'm just going to have to tell them that i can't have a CA with them if they can't give me an overdraft (just £500) as I'll be getting unauthorised borrowing fees straight away after switching over?

They matched a £10K overdraft for me last year, although I did have to 'negotiate' it up (from their initial £5K offering) with their switching team whom I rang directly...do you have a number for them?

Overdraft fees etc are waived during the switching process, according to the A&L website.

A word of warning...Clydesdale may call in the overdraft if you mandate your income elsewhere and don't service/reduce the balance each month.

Thnaks Yorkshire Boy. Does anyone else have any experience of the overdraft matching process when switching to an Alliance and Leicester current account?

A&L matched my overdraft without arguments after I sent an original bank statement from my other account. I wasn't overdrawn on my other statement.
  • I spoke to them today about matching my £1,900 overdraft. The first lady I spoke to said they needed the last 30 days of my old account and that I needed to be in credit for at least 2 days and not gone over my overdraft.I rang later on in the day to ask if a printout was ok(it isnt btw) and was told its 2 months worth of statements I need.

I'm hoping 1 month will do as thats due to be with my this week otherwise I'll have to pay for back statements.
