    From the article:

"However, the £250-£500 vouchers are free money, so for anyone to lose that extra boon is a big shame."

No, they're not free. They are a redistribution of wealth from taxpayers to children.

Why are we always told that the Benefits Board isn't the place to discuss benefits policy and then an MSE Official posts something like this?

I suggest that, like all discussion threads, it should be moved to Discussion Time.

Remind me again, what is the saying? Do as I say not as I do (something like that)

    Hi Chardir,

I totally agree - the quote had just been subbed down a bit but I have added a caluse back in because it is important.

Here it is in full now (and in the article):

"However, the £250-£500 vouchers are free money given back to families by the government, so for anyone to lose that extra boon is a big shame.""

  • Good- pretty much the first thing I've agreed with the tories on, but as the article points out there is no actual provisions that can be made against it all being spent down the pub!

There is no real reason for randomly handing out money to kids.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

It was a crazy idea in the first place, it'll be a good thing if it is scrapped.

I totally agree with the conservatives on this.

I'll go one further and say that Child Allowance should be means tested.( I'm a mother with two young children, I cannot understand why the government gives out money to those parents who are on joint income of 60K and over)

Yes, so do i, but NOT means tested to the boundary of £16K family income. I really appreciate my Child Benefit payments and we are on 24K. We aren't entitled to any of the other means tested benefits but take out our bills and we are not a penny better off than someone on full benefits. We could scrap the job, or get a lower paid one and be the same financially but that would be immoral and we'd rather earn what we have rather than rely purely on handouts.

I do think there should be more incentive for working families though as it is just too easy to not work and claim benefits and never have any reason to bother working.
