Getting stains out of clothes

I am desperate for some help with my washing!

I spend an absolute fortune on various stain remover products, from ones you spray ditrectly onto the clothes, to ones you put into the washing machine dispenser, and as far as I can tell they are all rubbish!

I have 4 children who between them can cover their clothes in food/mud/juice and other stuff too disgusting to mention within seconds of being dressed!

I've tried washing at 40/50 even 60 degrees and still can't get rid of the stains. The main culprits are bolognase sauce and mud from out back garden (not sure if it makes a difference but we have heavy clay soil).

Any help at all would be most welcome.

Thanks in anticipation!

I've just discovered Stardrops is a wicked stain remover. :D use neat and rub in for spot stains or soak overnight in a solution (cold water as heat sets stains).

Prior to this the best thing I found was to soak overnight in soda crystals (blue packet 52p in tescos) or to use old fashioned fairy laundry soap. The stardrops works far better though.

I have a mucky toddler and do kids craft parties where the kids excel in covering me in paint and glue and it's a godsend to me. I can't thank you all enough for that stardrops thread!

Do make sure you do a double rinse though if you use it though. It's not skin-friendly. (Though I have problems with most laundry detergents as I have excema so others may not find it quite such an irritant).

I soak any clothes that have bad stains in a solution of Oxystuff (can't remember it's name but I get it from the 99p shop - it's oxy or oxi something).

Lidl's also do their own brand. That costs £2 odd. That's a bigger tub though.

...........and you'll find that there are some posts by me.;)

All of the stains you've mentioned will be removed if you use Ariel Biological Automatic washing powder. No pre-treatment will be necessary on fresh stains.

It won't be as successful if you've already tried lotions and potions etc........ and 'fixed' the stains.

    Good Luck

I just cover the stain with neat biological washing liquid and leave until the next wash or overnight and then just put it in the wash as normal and everything usually comes out clean. Ive got a very mucky 5 year old lad. Also with his white sport socks I leave them in a very hot solution of washing liquid and water for a few hours and bung them in the wash and they come out lovely and clean - its the soaking that does it.

I recently discovered stardrops and soda crystals. I too have a cupboard full of lotions and potions that cost the earth and 'calim' to remove the stains.
I now use 1 wash tab (half previous dose) a couple of drops of stardrops in dispenser draw, and maybe some on the really bad stains (eg loads of bolognese on a white shirt and left to dry for days/weeks under the bed) and add about 1/4 to 1/2 a cup of soda crystals to the drum (on top of the wash itself).
Now my washing has a 'cleanness' that I've NEVER had previously - stains are out, clothes are brighter. I was pushed for time the other day and skipped the 'treat stains with stardops' bit and just stuck it in the dispenser and it still all came out perfect. The only thing I still can shift is ink! (and I think it's the permanent type at that)
It'll cost less than £1.50 to buy both - just over a £1 to be honest - and both can be used for loads of other things too (search this board for other ideas for them and you'll be amazed!)
    Hope this helps

    i agree with kaz

i use half cheap washing powder, half soda crystals then some star drops in the drawer aswell

if theres a specific stain then i use a paste of soda crystals or squirt some stardrops straight on and leave for a while before washing

my washing appears cleaner and fresher but without an overpowering smell, just lovely and clean :)

    its fab

I had a really good booklet about using white vinegar and stuff like that - but I can't find it  If I do find it I will post what it says for mud and spag bol sauce. It really was a mine of info...I suspect my daughter has taken it...but she says not :rotfl: It even helped getting Guiness out of my sons jacket...not a trace afterwards. :T

Now it is Friday - hurrah and the bottle of wine is winking....;)

Don't forget sunlight for the bolognaise sauce/tomato based stains in general. Just wash as normal then hang in the sunshine. Can't get cheaper than that!

I have found Ace very good, gets most stains out - might give this Stardrops a go though!
