smelly washing machine

We have a BEKO ecocare. It has served us well for a year or so. In the past week the machine really has started to smell of stagnant water. We've tried draining off water from the back. But there is still water in the drum bit I think. We've washed it through empty and with old cloths in. Put cleaning agent in it.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? What did you do? Please let me know if there is a simple solution.

PLEASE HELP, IT HUMS AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO GET SOMEONE OUT TO LOOK AT IT!!! Thanx

I followed a piece of advice from another member on here awhile ago when my washer started to stink. It was so bad the clothes that had just been washed were smelly too.
Every time you use it wipe around the inside of the glass door to make it dry, then wiped the rubber seal inside as water gathers in there too. When you're done wiping it (takes 30 seconds) leave the door ajar if possible to let it dry inside too. Worked a treat for me, I now have a new machine and do this everytime to stop it happening again.

I would try looking at the filter, I have an indesit washer that has a filter at the bottom of the machine at the front, behind a bit of metal that can be removed. I found a penny in mine! You could try removing and washing out the dispensing drawer thourougly and wiping underneath it, I found mold! Also have you checked the water and drainage pipes there could be a blockage?

It sounds like either a pipe is slightly blocked or the filter is on its way out.

Get as much water out of it as you can when the wash has finished and put a bit of bicarb in the drawer instead of washing powder.

I had this problem with a washing machine in my old house. I put bleach in it, also (separately) ran 95deg washes, and nothing stopped it being really stinky.

Then when I came to unplumb the machine to move house, I discovered that dirty washing up water from the nearby sink was constantly getting into the drain hose and then into the machine. The drain hose was connected to a spigot under the sink rather than to a separate standpipe, so waste water from the sink was getting into it.

So you might want to check it's not anything like that.

Hi,
If your waste pipe from the machine goes into a spigot off of your sink rather than in to its own standpipe you have to check a few things.
Make sure that once the hose leaves the spigot it goes as high as possibe preferably through a hole just below the bottom of your worktop and then down to your machine.

had the same problem and only happens on wash days when washing? If the clothes smell ok, then it is probably a problem on the outbound water side?

My problem is that all washes are in low temperature, and biological powders tend to feed the microbe problem.

Now I do a boiling maintenance wash using washing soda every month or two. You also can apparently use vinegar or bleach too.

There is an issue of corrosion with washing soda or vinegar and aluminium. I feel the the quantity I consume, will take my machine many years to corrode.

Also for got to say sometimes you also have to replace the outlet hose as it has soo much gunk in it that it starts to go bad.
