Stopping up hot fill tap for washing machine

I've just bought a new washing machine which is cold fill only, unlike my last one. So I've turned off the hot fill tap under the sink but it's very slightly leaking. Can anyone suggest a way of stopping it up? (don't want to call out a plumber). It ends in a screw, but the 'ends' they sell in my local DIY store (Focus) all seem to be designed to fit on the end of a pipe which doesn't have a screw thread.

Any ideas most welcome.

First I have to assume that you have a screw thread on the end of the pipe that would take the hose to a warm fill machine. If so find a rubber washer without a hole in it and just put it in the end of your old screw thread pipe and tighten it up. If you can't find one make one out of some old rubber?

It you just have a pipe you can get stop ends that fit and tighten with a spanner.

Use PTFE tape around any crew thread to help it seal.

Your local plumbers merchant will sell a copper or brass 'stop end' with an internal thread. Went to mine with the same problem - and had one in seconds, which they didn't even charge for. Looks like this (except you want one with flats, rather than a circular end, so you can tighten it with a wrench) :

Mine was a bit precautionary - as it wasn't leaking. But I felt it needed one just in case the lever tap in the hot feed line got knocked from 'off'. Tighten it mildly with a wrench - but put a couple of turns of PTFE tape around the external thread first.

I think the stopper p1070419_s.jpg advised in the post above is the wrong one as it should be soldered.
If the tap looks like p1071282_s.jpg or p1079933_s.jpg then you can just keep the nut and replace the tap with the corresponding part of p1059136_s.jpg or p2422864_s.jpg

Agreed. That's why I said it needed an internal thread - just couldn't find a pic that fully fitted:o

Thank you so much for all the replies - this looks as if I'll get it sorted no problem. Cheers!
