Hi,
If you manage to read my post then thank-you for taking the time to read it.
Back in December 2007 I bought a new 46" Sharp LCD TV from Currys (Norwich Store), the TV has been excellent right up until today when it has developed a fault, basically I've gone and switched on the tv and I get a red screen, if I look closely there is a thin black line down the middle of the screen too, when turning on the sky or xbox I can see what they are displaying but I get thin red horizontal lines flickering on the image?
I'm not really sure what to do next as I do not have a extended warranty and the set is obviously out of the manufactures 12 month warranty, this is where somebody may be able to help me..... I've heard about the 'Consumer of Goods Act' but I'm really stuck as to where I should start? I'm guessing I should call up the branch I bought the TV from and say I would expect the TV to be of quality good enough to last more than 21 months?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Regards
Richard.

I think if you get a copy of the Whatever happens brochure for computers in Currys and read it carefully you will see that you are covered for up to 6 years by the european directive. It applies to ALL electrical goods.0

No WEH leaflets say this, it's UP TO 6 years depending on circumstances (and you have to prove the fault was there from the outset) and it's a UK law not directive.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
Nope, just had one Baileys too many..and no leaflet.ok didn't gt it exactly right, don't have a leaflet here BUT it may give the op some leverage. Can you please explain to the op what their rights are?
much appreciated....0 -
OK, first things first, I must get these out the way: OP is getting confused between Sale of Goods Act and...something else. There's no "Consumer of Goods Act!"
Secondly, every time someone mentions the secret EU LAW, God kills a kitten.
Now, to more helpful things.
The stores are limited in what they can do, your best bet is to contact Currys customer services, mentioning the problem and that you have a right to claim remedy for up to 6 years from sale. It's quite likely they will ask you to get an independent report confirming the fault, and then they will probably arrange for it to be repaired.
The address is:
Currys Customer Services
The Parkway
Sheffield
S2 5YA
You could also email customerservices@currys.co.uk or even phone 08445 61 62 63Squirrel!If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
even phone 08445 61 62 63
Another company using rip off revenue sharing numbers, (0844), for paying customers trying to get their just rights and having to pay through the nose for the premium rate number.
Use this one; 0500 304304 (free from a landline), works fine, just tried it.
Plenty more available on the saynoto0870 site, just put currys into the search box.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0
