Hi everyone,
i think there was a post on thissubject before but i cant find it - so sorry for repeating it!!- but i need some advice on interview skills, tips and appearance, basically everything!!!!
i have got a interview next tues - my first since leaving uni (yay!!) :j- but the problem is that out of all the jobs i have applied for, this is the one i really wanted!! now tht ive got interview im stressing myself out - so far i have researched the company and trying to work on my interview skills!!:o
appearance wise i want to look smart (obviously) but i want the panal to remember me when reviewing me post-interview - so far i have been given advice such as: try not to wear a black suit as tht would be the obvious choice, navy blue is good colour to wear, wear a dark suit but chose one accessory tht stands out i.e red bag / great pair of shoes!
its my first interview for my ideal job and i want to make a good impression from the start - so ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
also they said i would need to complete a numeracy & literacy test anyone done these before, what do these consist of?
Thanx!!:T

I had an interview recently and had a test like this, the numeracy one had questions along the lines of:also they said i would need to complete a numeracy & literacy test anyone done these before, what do these consist of?
'a train leaves a station at XXam, and arrives at its destination XX miles away at XXam, what was its average speed?'
and things like
'You buy 3 things, costing XX, XX, and XX. The tax paid on them was X%, X% and X% respectivly, what was the total tax paid?'
and you had to chose one of 5 answers.
The literacy test was reading comprehension, you had to read a short passage and then answer true, false, or need further info to be sure to 5 questions.0 -
Anyone who interviews for a job will make claims of being a highly efficient worker, super provoked, high achieving employee etc, but you can really set yourself apart if you can prove these things. Before the interview take some time to visualize your past working achievements, and how you can prove them. Once you have done this, you just need to work raising these points in the interview itself.0

But don't forget that you can use examples from other things than paid employment. A degree should have given you transferable skills like teamworking and communication so you need to think of examples of how you've applied these, as well as in any voluntary work you've done and positions you've held.
Don't get too hung up on what to wear and concentrate more on preparing answers to likely questions.0 -

Hi,
Thanks for sharing your view.
One can learn skills from both academics and previous work experience . Professional work experience give confidence to answers work related interview questions.0 -
Some things to remember which is all part of the process:
- Don't fidget.
- Don't put your hands in front of your mouth.
- Justify your examples with backup.
- Look at the person who is asking you the question (as you'll probably get two interviewers).
- Shake hands on departure, only if offered on entry (I think anyway)
- Thank them for their time0 -
Today or next week Tuesday (next Tuesday can mean different things to different people)? How'd it go?0

Sadly I didn't do all of those things (unintentionally) but still got through. I think if you try to act how you usually are, you get more comfortable and sell yourself better even if it doesn't fit the dos and don'ts of what the job advisors tell you to do.0 -
This may sound really basic but believe me it really helps, put your feet flat on the floor, keeps you grounded therefore able to concentrate on topic in hand and look very secure in your posture. HTH0
