Well these re-using paper, can you grow seeds on the windowsills.
Ask the children to bring in plastic pots for this, yogurt pots, plastic cups, tomato punnits, butter tubs.0 -
I set up paper-recycling in my school. Each class had their recycling bin that was for paper that had been used on both sides, and set up a rota for loading the class bins into the main paper recycling bin, provided by the local council. Single sided paper was used as scrap/note paper and I encouraged the staff to do double-sided A5 photocopying. I got in touch with the local council who set up an activitiy for weighing the paper-collecting lorry before and after our collection and ran an article in the local paper.
I also set up an ink-cartridge recycling scheme with the children bringing them in from home for stickers/other rewards etc.
Wanted to do a lot more. Our school produced so much unnecessary waste, as do many schools.0 -
The primary school I went to recycled paper and cans and also collected paper and cans from the local community for recycling. We brought in recycling from home and people were asked to leave washed cans in plastic bags outside the school gates on a particular day of the week. The school used to get some money dependent on how much we collected.0

We re-cycle our used ink cartidges and by that I mean that we have them re-filled and returned to us ready for use by return post. this has saved our school a fortune plus we are definitely helping the environment. The company we use is the Aberdeen branch of Smart Cartidge. Check our their web site https://www.smart-cartridge.com Aberdeen are geared up to deal with schools and the savings are fantastic!!0

Have you all found https://www.Freecyle.com to save dosh for others and maybe sometimes your selves!!! If a factory does not have to make that bicycle or bookcase or whatever.... it must save energy and also the landfill for those who usually dump once 'its not in use by us anymore'.. worth a look.0

Aaaaarrggg the waste in our college drives me mad! Our students are always wandering over to the printer aimlessly to get a bit of paper to scribble on............and I'm always trying to re-direct them to the paper that's discarded around the printer areas instead! Luckily my desk is right next to the printer in our office, so when they walk in and want some, I can stop them going to the printer tray and point to my recycling tray instead
But the waste that our Ofsted inspection is producing would bring tears to your eyes!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: It has taken us just under 2 weeks to go through a pallet of paper when it would take double that usually! I'm currently having to print out 4 sets of each lesson plan at the mo, whereas normally I'd only print out 1!!!Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. http://www.recycool.org/ is a recycling program for schools where you can earn points to spend on school equipment.0

Are you aware of eco schools? It is an excellent programme for both primary and secondary schools. Schools can earn flags as they increase their green credentials.
You could appoint energy monitors in your school to make sure that lights are always switched off, and computers and monitors etc are not left on standby.0
