saving when on benefits

Does any one know what you are allowed to spend any excess savings on when on benefits.
Can we pay it off the capital of the mortgage?
and can we do repairs and maintenance on our home?

Well I came across the following very old case where someone's application for IB, originally refused for using their redundancy payment to pay off their mortgage, was then re-instated upon appeal.

"The Appeal succeeds because the Appellant deprived himself of capital to redeem
his mortgage but not for the purpose of securing or mcreasmg his benefit. His course
of action was considered to be prudent in view of his loss of employment, hls age,
his slim prospects of re-employment and diminishing capital...”

But I've come across many where the rapid spend of capital before claiming benefits is ruled as deprivation of capital.

Looks like its a complex area so the OP needs to give a bit more info.
