My son broke his laptop screen so i purchased one off ebay off a company that just does laptop screens arrived the next day and was really easy to change, and works perfect, cost me £70.00 including postage.

In all probability you've stressed and damaged the edge connector at top or bottom of the screen.

It's never economically viable to repair in anything other than the largest and most expensive of screens, so as mspig says, it's time for a new screen. Of course it will depend on make and model, but I doubt you'll get one much cheaper than the £70 quoted above unless you're happy to use secondhand parts.

I second the ebay option,as the screen broke recently by teeanger & easy to re fit £35 was not too hard on the pocket too

If its covered by accidental damage on your household insurance, try to make a claim.
The same thing happened to my lappy in May,we had to send it to the insurance company who decided if it could be fixed or not and they decided it was beyond economical repair and sent us a new one of equivalent spec/price.
Edited to add - cost us £50.00 excess
  • I subcon some of my laptop repairs to a company called CircuitUK, not sure how much they charge for a replacement screen, but it might be worth a quick phone call as their prices are usually quite reasonable
