It has the format of an international freephone number, which should be able to be called from most places, but I think it's a wrong number0

This is very similar to a Canadian company number I called earlier this week. It was classed as toll free.Herman - MP for all!0

I have the impression that some of these numbers are not enabled everywhere (I mean individual ones, not the whole series), as some providers list different access numbers from different countries
Is that what you mean?0 -

UK mobile providers (except Giffgaff) charge for UK freephone calls. Most charge premium rates.
Think yourself lucky that your mobile provider has not programmed its equipment with the international freephone code - if it had, the charges would almost certainly be excessive.
N.B. Giffgaff does not allow 00800 calling either.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
