Places to advertise for free

Hello everyone I have recently started up as a nail technician and I am trying to find places to advertise. At the moment I have done :
  • leaflet drops.
  • Got a website
  • Facebook group
  • Buisness cards (I hand some to current clients and have some on my avon books)
  • I did a craft fair to show nail art
  • Free directories online
Thats about it, anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks Laura

How about local shops in exchange for a freebie

Or ask friends to ask acquaintances in exchange if you get some business from them they get a freebie (nails). Ask local salons if they dont provide this service if they allow you to put a card up in shop and they give them a freebie again
  • twitter.com !

offer local deals discounts etc, and always add hashtags (keywords) on each post, so searches push you to top..
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)
  • local takeaways... large footfall and most punters have to hang around for a few mins waiting for their order.. reading the ads on the walls

Your car... print out your details and put them in the rear side windows.

Word of mouth... make sure you tell your customers to recommend you, you could always use a referral system. If an existing customer brings you a number of new paying customers, say five or so they get a freebie...

Create a website for little money, even if its a domain name and a 1 page about your services, better then no website. Submit your website to search engines, free.
    Kind Regards

  • Found a really great list of free advertising techniques somewhere on the internet, my favourite was to go to local libraries and find the books that are relative to your business, and insert a business card in each. For example if you had a flower shop, then wedding planning books would be a great way to reach a highly targetted audience.

That's genius! Will have to try that.
I can recommend a free advert on hotfrog-my google ranking for my actual website is on page 7 but my hotfrog listing is on page 2. Not bad for nothing.

Netmums, post on the notice board of your local site.
Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!
  • The most important thing is to work out who your customers are, women, i assume, and probably young women (18-40).

Where are the places these people go? I would suggest proposing tie-in deals with hair salons, perhaps you could do leaflet exchanges and say provide a small discount if they get their hair done at xxxx salon and then their nails at your salon.

I wouldnt bother with take away shops because you want to target people who spend money on looking good and that isnt targeted.

Netmums is a good idea. Also you need to make sure your website is optimised for search engines. What do i mean? Well when someone types in nail salon humberside - or wherever you're from, you want your site to be the first that pops up right?

Why? Alot of people now use search engines to find local businesses and NOT the yellow pages or Thomson local.

    Good luck.

?? I'm sorry, thats a bit of a generalisation isn't it?? You are saying that everyone who eats take away foods doesn't care for their appearance?? Sorry thats just wrong.

Take a look at the types of cars parked out side your average takeaway, there is usually a good selection of expensive cars. Nail treatments are a luxury and you need to target customers with disposable income, the best place to advertise is where people spend disposable income and are usually trapped for a short period of time.

    Anyway rant over...
