An alert to those in the Borough of Ealing: due to an 'underspend' .. 'through careful management of the budget' (surplus of finances accrued?) and a change in a business rates policy, the Council are now in a position to give almost every household (there are some unspecified exemptions) a payment of £50.00.

Payments will be made automatically and further information will be published in due course. Payments can be expected at around the end of the year.

Published in aroundEaling August 2009 but can't seem to find anything on more on website yet.

Hope you all get and enjoy!

Official MoneySavingExpert.com Insert:

Just to add to the above, Ealing council are indeed giving residents £50 back, by the end of November. If you pay by regular direct debit you'll get it back as a lump sum, if you're in arrears it'll be taken off what you owe. If you've already given the council your bank details it's likely you'll have it deposited into your account. The council's still working out the details of how it'll pay those it doesn't have bank details for.

You don't need to do anything to get it, simply look out for more details arriving through your door.

Households exempt from council tax, second homes and empty properties won't get the cash back.

    Great - thanks!!!

May be worth everyone contacting own Councils to find out their figures etc. - Ealing can't be the only one in this position, maybe others are witholding extra and need some residents to do a bit of asking/exposing?

Yes - sounds like one off £50.00 per household and that most people will get (with a few unspecified exemptions - may it won't go to those who have only been in area a very short time).... agree - not much info. to go on really.

Great if you could post anything you find out!
  • Hi Guys,
I lived in Ealing until the end of the tax year (March) but have since moved 'up north'. Does anyone know/think its likley that i'll get a refund too?

This may sound crazy but some of us don't want it. We would rather the money was spent on improving services, like not knocking down the only commumity centre in Acton, and building more flats. Tory council bribe I'm afraid.
