Laptop screen Help Please

I have just managed to break the screen on my sons Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop...I have trawled through ebay and found some as buy it nows around the £60 mark....

The question im asking is the screen size is 15.4" to keep the cost down do I buy a Dell Inspiron 1520 screen via a spares or repair laptop via ebay or can I buy any laptop with a 15.4" screen as Im sure I read somewhere way back that a screen as long as it's the correct dimensions will fit any laptop...

Am I right in thinking this?

Thanks in advance

It depends on the connections the screen has...

Not sure of Dell's are standard connection.

To be safe get an equivalent screen from another Dell.

Not entirely sure of the answer (it seems very very unlikely that any one will fit, but you could well find that it's worse than that and that there are several different screens that fit that one model laptop (e.g. each with different resolutions).

If you're going to switch them out yourself - take the screen out now and look up the actual part number of the one you've got to determine equivalence. There should be plenty of info out there once you know the part number.

    Was it an accident?

Do you have accidental damage insurance cover?

Many contents policies cover such incidents so you may be able to claim for a Dell repair. Even if you have an excess of say £50, this might be the best option.
