Just £59 Get your boiler service by 21st Aug

Hi,

Just got a letter from British Gas offering to service my boiler for mere £59.

My boiler is 3 years old never had any problems with it. Is it time for a service and is this the best offer around. And what can I expect out of this service.

Any advice would be very appricated :)

Good morning: the schedule and specification for boiler servicing advised by your boiler's manufacturer is the one to go by....this is what my OH (a RGI) would follow...as far as BG is concerned I couldn't say...check the terms and conditions.

Cost will be dependent on where you are in the UK and the type of boiler.

    Further advice available here.

It does sound cheap. Maybe I'm being cynical, but I've read enough on here about BG service plans to make me a bit suspicious about taking the price at face value. I'd love to be proved wrong!

And you'll be even more amazed by what they find wrong with it and the price they quote you to fix it. For another tenner or so you can get it serviced by an independent engineer.
Boilers should generally be serviced annually, the service record will be a condition of the warranty shoud a claim be required-though presumably you are now out of warranty anyway.

If it were me I'd sign up for the BG gas boiler coverage again. I had that once before, it was about £12/month I think, so £150/year. It starts with them servicing it, then they service it every year ... and then when it breaks down they come out and fix it... so I'd go for the whole lot, not just a random service.
  • If it were me I would put my £150 in the bank

Breakdowns = use the fixed fee repair sevice that BG offer, a local boiler guy, or the manufacturer of the boiler,SAVE £££££s

I have been looking at this too, my boiler is 2.5 years. What is the purpose of a service? As far as I can work out it is more of a 'check' than a 'service'.

As far as breakdowns go my home insurance includes home emergency breakdown cover . I had to call them out not long ago and the policy covered all labour and parts with no excess. Fantastic!

I did one of these cheapie services last summer.
It was around £50 from one of the main providers (from memory it was N-Power)
No problem at all-seemed to do a good job-gave it a clean out and didn't charge anything over and above.
As my boiler was four years old it was time for one and I felt I got a good deal.
No different to a car servicing really-some people get their car serviced once a year others wait til it breaks down. It's worth it to some people and not to others.
