First I'd like to say thank you to never-in-doubt for this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1612333

Today I was accepted for my my first mainstream credit card in 8 years :j
A combination of ID fraud by someone I know and mountains of debt from Uni left me in a pretty bad state credit wise. A CCJ, lots of debtors and a DMP meant I was unable to get credit anywhere.

A few years ago I managed to get subprime cards Capital One card and later Vanquis and used them rarely.

This year after the CCJ dropped off my file and being left with only student loan and an interest free loan I decided to apply for a Tesco card.

Why tesco, because thinking like a moneysaver I wanted the extra points that comes along with the clubcard credit card. I applied online and waited a few weeks and then phoned them to find out what was going on. I'd been rejected, they didnt like that I had an amendment on my credit file amongst other stuff.

A bit of searching on here I found never-in-doubt's post and I appealed. Explaining the necessity of having a password on my credit file due to ID fraud, and explaining how I was now a fully fledged grown up with a career ;).

Letter back 2 months later, nope you have not sent enough information please send more. Gathered everything on the list and mailed it off.

Another month later, letter saying sorry but we can not confirm you are you please provide more. I was married earlier this year, elctoral roll not updated, some bills still in old name

Sent everything I could get my hands on, bills, wage slips, letters from Gov' agencies which showed either or both names and my address andof course the marrige certificate, got the bank to print my statements rather than doing it myself. Thought I'd be rejected for not having original bills, I get most of mine online going green and saving the planet and all.

Today, 2 weeks later I get the letter saying I've been accepted and my card is on it's way :D

Thank you never-in-doubt and all you moneysavers who share this information.

Wow that's quite a plight. I would have given up ages ago. Well, you prove to use all we should never give up. Well done. :T

P.s. I got a Tesco Card but have a rubbish limit; what limit did you get?

Give up, nah not me, like a dog with a bone I am with almost anything I do. If I'm given the opportunity to challange it, I do :D

I dont even know the limit yet, letter says I'll get the card in a few days assume it'll be in with that. I'm just happy to have been accepted and for the first I applied for once I felt I could.

Hey Shel - congratulations - excellent news! :T:T:T

Best to ring Tesco (number on letter) and say 'i'm wondering about doing a BT and need to ask what limit I have and if I get any offers for a new customer'

This is the innocent way to ask lol

    congratulations again - well done......
