Stain removal - cat wee

Hi oldstylers
Can anyone advise on how best to remove cat wee from my (brand new :-( ) mattress?
We have scrubbed it with a mix of bio detergent, water and vinegar and vaxed it dry (our vax works as a wet vacuum but doesn't do the cleaning thing properly). It's better than it was but I'm worried that we've just got used to it and people that come to stay will be able to smell it a mile off!
Also, is there an easy and economical way to wash a double duvet at home? We have soaked it in the bath and hung it up outside but getting it down the stairs without soaking the entire house is a slog. Should I admit defeat and just take it to the laundrette?
Many thanks
Rachel

If there is still a smell, try spraying a mix of one part vinegar, five parts water, and that should help neutraize the smell. For cleaning, i wouldve sponged with cold water, pat dry, then rinse with a little antiseptic added to a bowl of cold water.

Hiya,
There are some tips in the Pets section of our MEGA Index sticky which may help. The shortcut is in the link:-

I have a Bactericidal Odour Killer which seems to work quite well on cat 'smells'
It's specifically made for 'Animal Odours.'...Looking at the bottle it is made by CASCADE PETCARE, not sure where you can get it from, we got it from a locally based shop, but you could try and get it from Pet sections of supermarkets, or Pet shops etc. Its very handy for any little accidents etc.0 -
i had that problem too, my cat (who was renamed "weewee" ) despite having a catflap and able to wander the countryside at will decided in her wisdom that my brand new sofa looked a good place to use as her litter tray and every time she needed the loo made a beeline for it :mad:i have had cats all my life and never have i had such trouble! if we left the living room unattended we had to lift the cushions up and barricade the sofa up with dining room chairs placed on top of it, needless to say this was a nightmare! also all doors had to be kept shut as my bed was another favourite place for her to relieve herself, my duvet has been washed at the laundrette so often that its knackered! i tried everything to try and break her bad habits for 3 years  but to no avail, much as i loved her i could stand it no longer so i had to rehome her to get my sanity back so i put an add in local shop and she got rehomed to a nice new family, i often see the lady who took her and she is still up to her old tricks, i feel terrible knowing what she was like but the lady was warnedproper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0

I had exactly the same problem as you had a few months ago on my £500 mattress! It stank but an application of the foam from Poundland Oxiclean and scrubbed did the trick. The Oxi leaves a bit of a funny smell for a few sdays but it goes away quickly and there is no cat wee smell though. The worst thing about the whole incident was being woken up at 4am being weed on LOL!!!!!!!! _pale_ _pale_ _pale_
I would bite the bullet and take the duvet to the launderette. Stick a bit of the oxi in a hot wash and it will kill any nasties from the wee.... HTHThere are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0
