HUGE FLIPPIN WASPS NEST

Hi,
My mum's just been telling me there is a huge, ginormous wasps nest in under the rafters in the house and there is wasps everywhere. Does anyone have any experience of getting rid of a wasps nest. Would the Council do anything, or is it a case of calling Rentokil or whoever to rid the house of this huge nuisance. My dad wants to take matters into his own hands and do it himself but I'm terrified, wasps stings and all that can cause anyphilactic shock etc. Any info gratefully appreciated, websites etc etc.
Thank you.

phone the council ask for the creepy crawly people
theyll sort you out might have to pay if its private house though ;D0 -
Wish you luck Smileymum - I'm terrified of the brutes. We had one in our house and council didn't want to know - I was told they would die off and therefore the problem would cease to exist. (Around January I suppose). I did offer to pay, but to no avail. Someone on here got rid of a huge one recently - think it was ac or maybe traf - I'm sure whichever one it was will be delighted to advise (there were unbelievable pictures of the thing posted too.)
Just had a thought - maybe if you tell council you've got wee ones in the house they'd act on it.0 -
I have dealt with wasps nest myself but they were outside in the garden and once I sprayed the foam on, I could run!!
I think when its inside you should get the council out. Friend had to pay £50 odd for removal in a similar place and best to phone quick as they can have a waiting time.0 -
Just a note on council tenants having wasps nest inside or outside the house they still have to pay,it is'nt just privately owned properties.
Not sure of the cost now to date but i paid £20. 3 years ago for one outside i one of my hedges, but it was very close to the house and there were children around.0 -
Also just some more information i was told, that it was better to deal with them at dusk as they have mostly all returned to the nest and you can get them all ;D
But it really is a professional job, unless you really are a hard !!!!!! or in other words dead tuff ;D.
Good Luck.0 -
Thanks for all the info guys, appreciated lots.
I did a look up and I noticed about treating them at dusk but I think due to where it is situated you'll have to be on a ladder and everything, not exactly and ideal situation, ladder, dusk, dark, wasps, oh noooo.
So, we'll try the council (or I shall demand my dad calls the Council) :-) on Monday morning to treat the darn thing, huge my mum says too. Not sure of what type of wasps paper or otherwise but don't wish to find out either. I hate the brutes too, yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When we had a wasps nest (in the loft) the Council came round, sprayed insecticide and left - took about two minutes and they charged quite a bit too.
Next time it happened I just bought some insecticide and sprayed the nest myself. - Don't touch the blighters nest though!0 -
I had to get the local council out recently for a wasps nest.
Charge is £44, but its free if in receipt of any type of benefits.0
