We are staying at the Travelodge this weekend for one night only , and I was wondering where are the places to see and where are the best places to eat? We will have ds1 aged 5 and ds2 aged 2 so any ideas help etc would be gratefully received. We are travelling from London , so we reckon on making an early start to avoid traffic , probabaly along with the other 5million pepole leaving London !!!! :rotfl:

There is a Brewers Fayre attached to the travelodge, which has a ball pond/indoor playground for the children, or a KFC next door. For anything else, you will need to go into the centre (about 3 miles).0

Have look here:- http://www.cheltenham.gov.uk/libraries/templates/index.asp for some info.
A good place to eat with littlies is a place called Butlers at the top of the escalator just inside the Regent Arcade. Or Pizza Hut in the Prom, which is doing all you can eat for £3.75 at lunchtimes, not sure if that includes this easter weekend, though.
Pittville Park is lovely at this time of year, plenty of space and a good playground (dog-free), feed the ducks on the lake, or taste the Spa Water in the Pittville Pump Room (it's horrible - believe me!)
The Museum & Art Gallery is worth a visit in Clarence Street, next to the Library, and there is also a restaurant there.
Get a copy of the Gloucestershire Echo when you arrive, that will give you loads of info about what's on this weekend - are you arriving on Friday, or Saturday? a new, massive, cinema complex has just opened at the old Brewery site with loads of screens.
There is, of course, shopping galore, and the wonderful clock by Kit Williams with a fish that blows bubbles is a must in the Regent Arcade - the kids will love watching for the little mouse.
Ottakars Bookshop in the prom has a brilliant children's section, and a cafe upstairs with a balcony overlooking the Prom, they have higchairs too.
If you want to go further afield, Cotswold Farm Park is wonderful day out, have a look here:- http://www.cotswoldfarmpark.co.uk/ or Birdland at Bourton on the Water, http://www.birdland.co.uk/. There is also a model village in Bourton which the children would love, here:- http://www.theoldnewinn.co.uk/village.htm
The Everyman Theater is doing the Jungle Book, see here:- http://www.everymantheatre.org.uk/whats_on/show_details.asp?Course_ID=101687
Hope this helps a bit, if I can help further ask away!coffeebean0 -
There is also the Holst museum in the town centre - which I believe is decked out like a turn of the century house, and there is currently a funfair parked on the racecourse (which also has some horse statues and racing exhibits, but not sure when they're open), which I presume will stay put over the weekend.
If you nip over to Gloucester (just down the bypass from the travellodge, about 10 mins) there is the Cathedral where parts of one of the harry potter films was made, and several museums around the docks area.

We had a lovely time in Cheltenham . Travelodge was an ideal touring base and the kids had a great time at the funfair at the racecourse and the steam train into Toddinton and back. Visited Bourton on the Water and Stow , thought it ws lovely , very Miss Marple, and on the way back popped into Chipping Norton. Very nice part of the world , and we will surely be visiting again.0 -
Glad you had a good time Lady E, it's a beautiful part of the country.coffeebean0

hi
we visit cheltenham regularly as we have friends there.
there is a 'tgi fridays' near to the travel lodge you are staying at which is always great, which would be walking distance if you wanted to drink  .
the best meal out i've had in cheltenham is at an italian near to the bus station in the centre of cheltenham:
Gianni Ristorante
Tel: 01242 221101
1 Royal Well Pl, Cheltenham GL50 3DN
also if you like indian the best indian around is the brasserie which is near to leckhampton where we stay, about 10-15mins drive from the travelodge, its got the top indian rating awards (name not coming to me, v good anyway):
Indian Brasserie Ltd
telephone: 01242 231350
146 Bath Rd, Cheltenham. GL53 7NG
taxis are plentiful and aren't too extortionate.
there are a lot of good places to visit nearby to cheltenham, as stated in previous posts the cotswolds are nice. we've also visited berkeley castle down the motorway, gone over to south wales (about an hour by car) and visited tinturn abbey, chepstow castle, goodrich castle, puzzlewood is good if you have kids or are a big kid :j . gloucester is lovely - the cathedral is great and they filmed bits of harry potter there.
have a lovely stay. 3 or 4 nights is a good stay for future reference.
