We have to get a desktop replacement laptop in the next 2 weeks, sadly before the new dual processor ones get cheaper. However they seem worth having as are not much more expensive than the old ones.
It has to be very quiet as is used in a small flat while OH sleeps. We would like a reliable PC with good speed, a great keyboard as lots of writing, very clear and bright screen resolution (without being like Sony's which gives headaches), 1024 MB RAM, 100 GB approx hdd, DVD dual layer writer, built in wireless card etc.
I do not like Dells. Sony's screens, keyboards and reliability worry me. At that spec, I imagine Lenovo will be well over 1500 pounds(?). Does anyone know about Fujitsu Siemens new Intel duo processor?
It's not that important that it be ultra portable, just as long as it can be carried without a hernia! :-)
We don't use it for gaming but for photo and media work, business apps and general use and would normally buy a desktop but don't have the space for one.
Are there any with AMD processors? I can't find any. I like HP's keyboard but have been told that HPs aren't that reliable and don't offer intl warranties either.
So wondering about the Fujitsu Siemens???? Also thought of Toshiba but only know their satellite laptop which makes a lot of noise from its fans.
Apple is quiet but I don't want to move to a mac right now.
Thanks anyone for your help. last point: good customer service after sales support is vital please.
cheers and thank you

HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -

Good idea. Then when the OP has done that, he can log into their forums here and check out the problems with "sticky keys" the users are having with their particular models of rock laptopIt does sugest on the other forum that Rock provide the laptops for Alienware.

thanks for the links. I've waded through and still can't decide. How quiet is the Acer?
I'm wondering when the prices of dual core processor laptops will come down as I hear they are not only much faster but run much more quietly
prob not before 20 April though??????
I need to buy from someone reliable. I can't deal with the likes of Dell and Dell tech support anymore, it's too stressful.
Does anyone have any experience of dealing with Fujitsu Siemens customer support, warranty, returns etc?
thank you0
