To be honest... I would advise a 250gb external hard drive by ATM for £100 on amazon.
Thats what I use for backup and it does a superb job...
After all, it wouldnt be much more than LOADS of rewritable dvd's, and its a LOT easier to use and do regular backups with.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

You can't just buy any brand. DVDs have media codes which indicate the manfucaturer and some tech specs (IIRC). You need to know which discs (media codes) are compatable with your burner.0 -
I find that all the DVD-RWs I've ever tired work with my LG burner.
One thing I'd say from experience is to buy DVD-RWs that let you burn at more than x1 speed. Check your manual to see the fastest your drive can burn DVD-RWs (it won't be overly fast something like x4) and by disk that do that speed.
Buring at x1 takes so long!0 -
I've always gone with Verbatim. Expensive in relation to other dvd brands, but you can still pick up 25 for £6-7 if you look about.
MK makes a good point about hard drives. I recently bought a spare hard drive, and use that for taking quick backups. A DVD is always a solid backup (as hard drives can fail/error) but it's just so quick and easy to plug a seconf hard drive in copy gb's and gb's across in minutes, and then unplug it and tuck it away.
In fact I spent another £25 and bought a hard drive enclosure, so my internal drive can also act as an external USB drive. I do however still use DVD's for backing up. And I also have ftp space that I back up to as well."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
I'm with wolfman, verbatims are available in most places now, so easy to find. They give me a near 100% working rate. Slightly higher prices but if the data is not going to get corrupt after a year then its worth the extra cost.0

Hi
They were selling the Verbatims 25pack in Sainsburys the other week at half price, still marked up as full price on the shelf but when I got to the till they scanned at half price. Very pleased, got 4 packs, excellent dvd's and go well with my NEC drive, never had any coasters with them.
And I've just ordered a Seagate SATA 250gb hd, for £65+ postage, so I can now back up to hd.
Hope this helps0
