NationWide will not accept me

Hi all,
I want to set-up a NationWide account (flexi) to run alongside my current account. Im 19, Self-Employed, have a good regular income have never been in debt or any financial trouble (dont even have a credit card). I have a debit and cheque book with my HSBC current account but I still get refused when filling out the on-line form.
Surley I would be their perfect cusotmer?
Is it worth contacting them directly? Whats the number guys?
I registerd self-emplyed less then a week ago - is this likely to be the problem?

Definately contact them direct. The online form may be set up to reject anything other than what they class as normal ie certain age, certain employment, whatever, so anyone showing self-employed may be automatically rejected at that stage as many banks like to look at different criteria before processing the account.0

Just phoned them and went through the procedure again - and I was refused.
They said they dont know what the problem is - could be that im newly slef-employed.0 -
I was also refused a nationwide flexaccount.
I am self employed with a guarenteed income as well i'm 19 and refused me and i was doing the application in branch. I have only been self employed for a month now.
I walked accross the road to Lloyds tsb and they accepted me fine and the application process was easy and quick.
Give them a go

Really wanted the Nationwide account because of the free withdraws from outside UK - what other bank offers that?

Hi guys,
i worked for Nationwide for 4 years and finished with them 18 months ago.
when i worked at HQ in the call centre and in branch the system that was used across the board had a direct link to Experian.
I know that the scoring was really tough, with the first thing being looked at was the electoral roll at your address.
my suggestion would be to check that you are registered to vote with the local council. I know through my own experience, being turned down despite being a staff member this was a common hurdle people fell at. i have an account with Lloyds with all the extras - overdraft etc, and could not get a visa debit card account/cheque book nothing!
If this is not the case for you, try going to a local branch, explain your curcumstances with the decline and having a "Full Facility" account with HSBC, maybe the branch might be able to push it through or at least advise maybe where the problem is.
In nearly all cases that i remember, Nationwide will still be able to open a basic Flex account for you and then review in a few months after a clear indication of how the account is being run.
Alternativly as "Grumbler" advised go through the appeals section with a good letter.
