VIRGIN Rates HUGE increases June 2009

I have news for any Virgin customers. As of June 1st 2009 Virgin has dramatically increased some of their call charges.
The MSE International call checker prices are drastically increased for Virgin customers, even more so than before.
Calls advertised on the call checker will now (probably) be as follows, I say probably because I have only checked all the ones for France.

BT ....................................VIRGIN
0.5p/min............................9p conn + 3p/min
1p/min...............................9p conn + 4p/min
2p/min...............................9p conn + 5p/min
3p/min...............................9p conn + 6p/min
Anyone who is with Virgin, please leave them for good.

Yes they told us quite a while back.
It now costs 10p each call connection, even local calls. I get free weekend calls and have signed up with 18581 for my other calls.0 -
only use my evenings and weekends package, don't use it for any other type of calls, so it's still good for me4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

They told you they would be increasing the PG22 from 0.5p minute to 3p a minute? They didn't tell me that. And the PG8 from 1p to 4p.

There is a thread here about the service. You register and imput a code before each call and they are cheaper.

Ahh, I see you mean 18185, I was googling 18581 and getting nowhere. I thought you might have had a holy grail for me for a minute
I think Virgin will soon be increasing the charges to these 3rd party line providers 0808 access numbers aswell. Prices will go up soon, I think.0 -

However, I'm sure their T&Cs will include some weasel words allowing them to simply bar access to whatever numbers or number ranges they wish and they'll achieve their ends that way if necessary.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

The telecoms providers rent out the numbers to businessess and those businessess can be like 1899 who use the number to provide low cost calls to people.
I think I'm right in that previously 1899 announced some price rises and blamed the price rise on the increase in line rental charged by Virgin.
Perhaps someone who knows exactly how it all works can let us know.0 -

Very few of those guesses are accurate. 0800 and 0808 numbers are available from a wide range of providers.
But Virgin's increases certainly show the disadvantage of being captive to a company that feels little or no need to compete on tariffs.0 -
Yes, but those are surely secondary suppliers, the lines must be rented from a telecom provider. And I can swear that 1899 stated |"we are increasing our charges to you because of NTL (at the time) increasing their charges to us". I remember because it sparked me to complain to OFCOM about the whole NTL monopoly.Very few of those guesses are accurate. 0800 and 0808 numbers are available from a wide range of providers.
