Hello,
Auction finished. I paid within 20-minutes. Yesterday I had a mail from the seller saying that their PP account isn't working, and would I send a cheque to them. OK, send on your details...
Mailed them back asking for their full details, and haven't heard anything so far. I've pulled their details, and they're incomplete.
Checked my PP acount, and the payment was sitting there unclaimed.
The seller has 100%, and about 700 feedback.
I'm not entirely sure what to do next???
This will be the 2nd one I've had like this in the last few weeks, where their PP acount isn't working etc. We're only talking £2.50 on that one, and £9 on the one today.
I'm paying from a PP balance btw, so no credit card involved etc. So, hopefully shouldn't be an issue for a standard account.
What should I do please?

Run away.
Can't take paypal, hmm, I wonder why. Instead they want you to send a completely insecure payment.
Respond politely to them, explain you have already paid (and reclaim your money) but that you are happy to wait until they have sorted their paypal account before repaying. Then if they don't get their paypal account sorted and opened buy elsewhere.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I believe eBay insist on Paypal being offered as a payment method on all auctions. So if they're not accepting a Paypal payment, they;re going against accepted eBay practise already - if not the rules.0

Mmmmm, ok.
I'm caught in a dilemma I must admit, as I've had PP problems in the past due to one of PP's bugs after some upgrade. I ended up having to close the account and create a new one, as PP and eBay kept on blaming each other.
Also, years ago... We always used to use cheques/postal orders quite regularly.
I'll see what he says by tonight.0 -

In the old days... ebay would protect you and refund you minus a fee if you paid by cheque. No longer! My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
A few years ago I paid for £80 worth of stuff by cheque, the seller cashed it and I got nothing, despite e-mails. The seller set up a new account, but I still see them selling and know it is them as they specialise in one particular brand and have very similar reference numbers in the listing. I've been extremely wary ever since.0

When you list an item, it says that you have to accept paypal in any listing, and provide your paypal email address. After that, you can choose to accept any other means of payment, but I'm sure none of those are protected. Surely the payment wouldn't go through if it wasn't a genuine pp account, so unless your payment came up with unclaimed status, you can be sure it went to your seller. Therefore, why send it back??0

sorry, i missed that part. in that case, have you asked the seller if the email address was definitely correct in the original listing. in the last couple of months, rather than the email address already being in the bow when i list an item, i have to type it in every time i list an item. i once made a typo with it and luckily noticed, but i did have to alter it in the listing whilst it was still active. maybe that has happened if he seems genuine?0

Unfortunately there are a lot of listings that now claim their paypal account is not working (and like you unfortunately discovered, some that arn't as up front until you win)
Probably these are underage ebayers who cannot create a legimate paypal account.
Issue a non performing seller dispute and run a mile.
I've nearly been caught by this myself in the past (before paypal was made compulsory). Con artist tried to keep my money without sending the goods. Eventually I slapped him with a court summons and still be was laughing at me. Only when I read his defence did I realise this ebayer who had been trading on ebay for about 4 years only turned 18 five days before I bought the item!!!
Phew! If I'd have bought it a week earlier the summons may not have stood as underage people cannot agree or be bound by a contract."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
