Cat Help

Our cat (Thomas) stays out most of the night and returns in the morning and sleeps all day inside. However on him returning Tuesday morning I noticed he had a cut/gash above his right eye. He has had a lump there before so I guessed he just knocked himself to make him bleed. So I thought nothing of it and bathed it with warm water and he was his usual self.

However an hour later he moved underneath my bed. He sleeps in my room and when he was a kitten he was in my room for some weeks before he was allowed in the rest of the house. Some of this time was spent hid under my bed. Anyways he hasnt come out since. I am unsure if he has eaten any food and I am sure he hasnt been to the toilet (dirt tray). Now whenver I go near him with food/to try and move him he hisses very badly at me. I cant get hold of him and I dont want to scare him anymore but this is scaring me :o

He is 4 years old, has been spayed, has boosters yearly (one due in 3 weeks) and is frontlined. The only problem is there are other tom cat's (unspayed) and females around the area and also foxes have been seen as we are very close to the woods. He is scared of other humans and traffic so I know nothing could have happened to him unless he has been fighting?

Has anyone got an idea of what this could be? Will he calm down himself? What is he isnt eating/drinking?

Any help welcomed :A

I wonder if a bigger/more aggressive cat has clobbered him and he is now feeling very scared :( Perhaps leave a handful of treats just outside the edge of the bed and leave the room just to see if he ventures out?

Tryed that BB, he loves catnip so we still have his catnip easter egg left. We have put it on my floor all day while I was at work and its all still there :o I hope he is just scared but the problem is he isnt eating. It wouldnt be too bad if he was eating then still hiding

I would take him to the vet. If he's been bitten or scratched he will most likely develop an abscess, these aren't noticeable at first but they make cats quite ill and they generally become a bit withdrawn. They are easy to treat though.

Good idea about seeing the vet and getting him checked out... I would try lying on your tummy with your arms tucked in and just talk to him soothingly for a while too, it's what I do with our angry cat, it usually calms her down enough to be handled... Either than or she hisses and runs off... But either way he'd be out from under the bed hey ;)

As long as he's not visibly bleeding just leave him, he'll come out in his own time.
When Dennis loses a fight he just wants to crawl somewhere and sulk for a while.
You do right to get him to the vet's tomorrow just to check him out

    Hi there,

I don't have any other advice to add other that what's been suggested already but just wanted to say I hope he is ok, I'm sure he will be back to his usual self soon enough. I love cats and always get upset when there's something wrong with ours!

Hi Pap, how long ago did he have the lump?

Our boy had an abcess on his cheek and I didn't notice a lump, only realised it was there when the abcess burst and I thought he'd caught himself. When I bathed it, it began to ooze, so off to the vets.
He had an injection and was on antibiotics for 7 days.

He was very withdrawn and quiet for a few days.

Top tip for getting the tablets down him.....squish some catnip drops round the pill ;)

    Hope he's ok soon :kisses3:

Witty ~ It wasnt really a lump like that more of what we would call a skin tag. He has had it since he was very young :D

Well sucess. After trying once more I left him to it and had a nap on said bed. Well as soon as Mum came home and was in the toilet he came out. Another of his 'tricks' is sitting in the bathroom while on the loo/in the bath :rotfl: He was still very jumpy but he gladly went downstairs. We then fed him a tin of very watery tuna, hoping to hydrate him. He ate 70% of that no problems. He then had a few of his treats before going to the toilet in his tray :j After a bit more time he wanted some fussing  however I think he wanted to go out.

Anyways i managed to look at his eye and its clean, I think he has been cleaning it. But its very wet still so maybe its leaking clean fluid? He then followed me up and under my bed before turning back around and is now with Mum downstairs.

So in the past 3 hours he has really perked up. He is now getting fed some proper cat food as he wont leave mum alone. He still isnt 100% and dosnt like be being on the floor with him but the improvement is such that I think I can moniter him at home now. Obviously if his eye gets worse its straight to the vet but at least he is eating and passing fluids etc.

Thanks all for your concern :A
