Does Cap 1 file a late payment on your credit ref?

:( I'm so angry with myself. I have just remembered that I didn't pay my Capital One bill and it's due by the 14th.

It's only for £42 (total balance) and I've just sent them this amount from 2 different bank accounts in the vain hope that one might just get there in time although I realise how unlikely that is.

I accept I will have a late payment charge which is my own fault, but will Capital One file this as a late payment report on my credit reference file? I have never paid anything late before and I'm gutted.

I know M&S only file after 2 late payments but don't know about anyone else.

From the sounds of your OP you made the payment before the next statement is produced but after the due date.

If this is the case in general they don't write it to file but, keep it on internal credit score.

Companies usually write to file the month after so chances are you'll be fine - you won the fight but, not the war ;)

    Hope this helps

  • Have you rang them? I once realised I'd not paid my Sainsburys Visa the day before it was due so rang them in a bit of a panic explaining I'd forgotton all about it. I was allowed to BACS the payment from my bank account and all I had to pay was the interest on the account, I didn't get charged a late payment fee and it didn't get put down as a late payment on my CRA report. It might be an idea to give them a call and explain the money is on it's way.

Yes Fedz...that's pretty much it. Payment is supposed to have cleared and reached my account by the 14th. Since I've just done it earlier this evening and it's now the weekend............I hope you're right, lol.

No magentadreamer, I haven't. I'll do it tomorrow though. Like I said, I can stomach the late payment thing if need be, I've just always been so careful and I guard my credit score jealously - hopefully they'll take a note of the fact that payment had been made and wont report it as such!

    Thanks for replies. :)

Quick update....Cap 1 said a £20 late payment charge would be issued on the account but they will refund it as soon as it goes on and they wont refer to credit report so I wont have any late payment showing there.

    Result and relief! :)

    Great result :)

It's an awful feeling - I've had it happen to me!

I've got all 'zeros' on my credit record and it only takes one oversight for it to be blemished.

    I'm pleased for you :D

Remember you can set up a DD for the minimum amount due each month (they taclculate and take automatically) and then you just pay the extrq. Eliminates the situation you describe happening. Guess they don't like people doing this though as it reduces their chances of slapping on a late payment fee.
