Various newspapers are reporting that WaitroseDeliver is removing the delivery charge for orders over £50 from Wednesday (see link below)

(This doesn't apply to Ocado deliveries.)

I've just asked the wife about this as she works for WaitroseDeliver and she didn't have a clue about it.

But apparently they have a habit of changing stuff online and not telling the partners.
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!
  • It's in the Express business pages today. But one thing that stuck out for me was the quote from Waitrose head marketing honcho stating that Waitrose, unlike the other supermarkets, can do this as they have a higher profit margin. As a moneysaver that would concern me, lol.

I do suspect that Waitrose would have to have a higher profit margin than Tesco, they only have 200 stores compaired to Tesco's many thousands. But on the other hand on average there is only a 3% price difference (as reported in 2008 results), couple this with no delivery charge, and the fact that your not lining PLC shareholders pockets I would say shopping at Waitrose is very much a good thing.

Obviously I'm in a position of getting partner discount so for my family it's the cheapest place to shop, but I still like the fact that it is one of the last businesses that care about it's customers.

Are Waitrose cheaper than Ocado, then? I've never really understood what tie up they have. Certainly Ocado's basket (for us) on mysupermarket is, frankly, laughably expensive...

I think Ocado is a separate company that just happens to use Waitrose supplies (which I believe is held in a big distribution centre somewhere). Waitrose Deliver is staffed by Waitrose staff and the food comes direct from the local store.
