Calls from 'UPI' Law firm

Dear all,
I have received two calls so far this afternoon from men (with strong middle eastern accents) claiming to be from 'UPI' saying that they are taking on my bank-charge refund claim. As I was in the middle of an argument with my OH (and the call had disrupted me mid-yell!!), I was quite short with the 'gentleman' and demanded to be told what 'UPI' stands for - he couldn't answer this (instead, stammering umms and ahs, and repeating that he was taking on my claim) !! I said that I had no idea who he was and who he worked for and that I did not want him calling me again and hung up.

Not even an hour later another man with an Indian accent called claiming to be from UPI, he also could not answer what UPI stood for, and so I politely told him to take me off their call list and hung up.

How on earth have these people got my home number (which is ex-directory and is very carefully given out - only my doctor, dentist and my mum / OH's parents call the number)!! How worried should I be that they know I am reclaiming bank charges? (I am reclaiming from Lloyds)

Has anyone else received calls? I am extremely skeptical and concerned that my details have been leaked. Have done a quick google and cant find anything other than another forum talking about calls received today.

Please be weary if you receive a call!

Bryony

  • hi , im very new to all this , but thought i would reply to you as i have had 3 phone call today from upi .

I was speaking to a man with a strong accent today ( very hard to understand) and he was very pushy on the phone call .. he said he will send me a pack out with forms to sign to help me get my bank charges back . he went on to ask my address details and he asked what bank i am with . ( i said he should know the answer to that question)
He went on to ask when my card ended and the issue number . when i wouldnt give him my card number he got quiet angry and started talking alot louder !
we looked up the website while he was on the line and i said i can see from the website that they are a company who help people with claiming the money back , and thankyou but i do not need any help , i can do it myself ... he would not take NO for an answer .in the end i had to hang up .
20 mins later the phone rung again and guess what it was UPI !!
a lady this time reading of the same lines as before .. i told her to take my number off the books and DO NOT CALL ME AGAIN .

I have also read in other forums that they send you the pack out to sign and then charge you £49.99 .

  • I totally agree with you agressive claim management companies should not do that.
