Losing motivation

Hi

Am fast losing motivation

Have cut back my spending as much as i can (my spending is around £30 a week)

Am trying to save for a deposit for a rented flat which i am putting some spare cash in

But the debts I have never same to go down by much as it is starting to really depress me.

Am on the lookout for a better (ie higher paid) job but nothing seems to be happening

Any ideas for motivation would be greatfully recieved

    hello

    it's hard isn't it?

what about something that you can see visually - like teh £2 coin savers slub, collecting coppers or something so that you can touch and feel some of your savings / payments towards your debts?

    Hiya

I sometimes (actually often) feel the same. This website and these forums keep me focused. The people on here are great for support and giving the much needed kick up the bum when times get tough.

Keep going, it will be worth it in the end and keep us all posted on your progress. Like SaveMoreMoney said, one step at a time and if you share your good news no matter how small, people will spur you on and it is a nice feeling!

  • Thank you

Some days its ok, i try to be positive and stuff

I did pay off £3.20 off one of the credit cards today which felt good but then i got thinking that i had years of this ahead of me and then get really demotivated

I went through a spell in the summer of putting lots of shrapnel on the cards. Anything I needed to buy that was on BOGOF I put the money I would have spent on the second one on the card - it was great, because I was already hunting for bargains, but the "money saved" went somewhere useful, rather than getting sucked into the abyss.

Maybe it's worth setting little targets? I had things like clearing one debt completely, going below the next £1k level - or even £100 level, and the last ones were 10% of the original debt, then £1k. This week's is penultimate payment, then we'll be all done!

You'll have bad times, and good times, but eventually - if you keep at it - you'll have debt free times. Just think ahead to that!

  • Paid off another four quid off the smallest credit card bill

Not going down as quickly as I would have liked. Would like to get it down to under £900 by the end of the month

Then the target for April will be to get the loan to under £4600

    Heres hoping

HI there - it is so hard at times isn't it?

Have you posted your SOA? I know you have cut back but maybe we can find something else, or see something you're missing? Worth a go.

In terms of motivation, you do need something visual but you also occasionally need a treat. Get a takeaway pizza, go out, but something cheapish for yourself.

If it's all save, save, save then it is too much to deal with.

I know exactly what you're going through - I've had absolutely no motivation for the last six months or so. Still struggling to find it, but never mind!

One thought sprang to mind when I read your posts. Rather than paying off the odd four quid every time you happen to have a bit of extra money, how about putting the spare money into a moneybox and then using it to pay off a lump sum every one or two months? Somehow I think it's more of a boost if you pay off £30 or £40 in one go, rather than 10 x £4. But maybe that's just me........

    Hey there

I understand how you feel. This is not an easy ride but think of how much better life will be once you get rid of your debts :)

I agree about posting your SOA. There may be something in there you overlooked or someone may have an innovative suggestion. Worth a try.

Carry on withe the payments, no matter how small. Every little helps - to use Tesco's slogan ;)

Good luck and keep posting, you are not alone :grouphug:

:j Congrats on being determined to reduce your debts :j

I think sometimes we don't give ourselves enough credit for this step, realising our situation and deciding to do something about it! Every tiny piece you pay off a debt is an achievement, and far better than adding any on. Just think about the interest you're saving, even on small bits it can really add up.

As skintchick says, treat yourself every now and again. Nothing extravagant, just make sure you keep yourself alright as well as reducing your debts. Paying them off as fast as humanly possible for long periods of time is very draining, this is not worth sacrificing your happiness over! If you have a treat sometimes you will feel more motivated and less likely to give up all together!

Best of luck and keep posting :)
