The first sentence of that second paragraph is a but odd - a statement of fact ending in a question mark!

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

But on 8th April 2009 they then sent the below email now saying you would only get free 0845 and 0870 calls if you also took your broadband service with them and grudgingly saying they would only make your 0845 and 0870 calls for the last two weeks in February free, even though customers were clearly under the impression their 0845 and 0870 calls were also free for the whole of March and for 8 days in April:-

Only after I complained to yourcalls.net did they finally grudingly agree to credit me for the 0845 and 0870 calls that I had made in March and early April in the belief they would not be chargeable. Even then they refused to provide me with corrected invoices for March and April showing the 0845 and 0870 calls as not being chargeable.

I continued to press for corrected invoices from yourcalls.net and changed my payment mandate to a non existent credit card account to try to force this but eventually they restricted my outgoing calls, even though I had by now (after threats of call restriction) given them a new credit card. As a result of this when my outgoing calls were restored I now found that yourcalls.net had barred my access to indirect access services such as 18185 or even 1280, even though their staff deny any knowledge of the company having done so.

See the latest posts in the thread at www.saynoto0870.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.cgi?num=1161955510/15#15 for the full story on the loss of access to Indirect Access services such as 18185

In short yourcalls.net are a bunch of incompetent scumbags where the front line staff do not know what they are doing and have no training (to be fair it is not the fault of the front line staff but of the directors of the company) and where the directors have little more than contempt for dealing properly with any customer complaints.

Mr ____________

Thank you for your recent contact. Free calls to 0845 and 0870 destinations are only available along with our broadband product. I can see from your account that a credit has been authorised relating to calls made to these numbers during the period of March. This will appear on your next bill and will offset the current invoice. It is not our policy to rerun invoices already despatched to customers.

Many Thanks

New and improved Broadband service now available for Yourcalls.net customers - from just £4.99 per month for the first 3 months (thereafter £7.49) up to 8Mb broadband. To find out more and to place your order, please call us on 0845 450 5020. Subject to activation and availability, and 12 months contract term.

You're absolutely right - I used to work for that company (years ago when it was under a different name) and the management have a deliberate policy of making refunds as hard as possible to obtain. Not the fault of the staff - they are treated almost as badly as the customers.

Just to clarify further my complaint about the company is about the directors who are not hand in running the business and who deliberately try to hide their full calling price list from the customers and who also tried to charge for 03 calls that should haven been part of inclusive calls packages and only changed their minds when I complained directly to a senior person at Ofcom (not to the Ofcom Contact Centre who are completely and utterly useless) about yourcalls.net being in breach of Ofcom General Conditions.

Some but not all of the customer services staff do try their very best (most notably a very nice supervisor called Fleur Johnson) but are let down by the utter unprofessionalism of the outfit they work for. But then again nearly all the other telecoms companies (especially Tiscal, TalkTalk and BT) seem to be just as bad. A classic case of Hobsons Choice I fear.:mad:

Hi NonGeographicalMan - sorry to hear you're having problems with Yourcalls.net.

Sadly, I no longer work for this company or I'd try and help out; although you may remember from the time I tried to introduce the CPS-only package (link to MSE thread where CPS-only product was ready to go but pulled at the last minute) - I had my pants pulled down by the powers that be, so would probably be of limited influence anyway.

The parent company, Comms Factory also used to run the much complained about Onebill Telecom, but a quick look at their website suggests this has now been sold off to XLN Telecom (who I'm sure you know all about from their having been one of the top ten most complained about telecoms companies in 2006)

Onebill website:
http://www.onebilltelecom.com/MyAccount

XLN website:
http://www.xlntelecom.co.uk/MyAccount

Striking similarity, no? I'm not sure [STRIKE]whether XLN have bought Onebill or the other way around or[/STRIKE] I]Update: http://www.zeusprivateequity.co.uk/press_rel13.htm - XLN bought Onebill[/I whether this also extends to the Yourcalls.net brand; whether this is also now at the hands of Christian Nellemann and chums or not, it wouldn't surprise me if the quality of service continues to decline regardless.

Anywho... when I was involved with Yourcalls.net I did my best to make sure it was a 'do no evil' business - and whilst we may have made mistakes along the way, the vision (in my mind at least) was always to be one of the good guys. I pretty much WAS customer services for the first six months - and probably spoke to each of our first 3,500 customers individually - it was my signature you will have seen at the bottom of each welcome letter.

I left when it became clear that the management were more interested in profit by any means than providing a decent service. It's very sad - I put a lot of myself into Yourcalls.net, into trying to create something really genuinely good, and demonstrate you can run a successful, profitable business without being a complete b**tard about it.

Good luck getting them to change; they won't. Time to move on, my friend, as I did around March 2007.

As for a complete price list, is this not what you were looking for?

If my memory serves me correctly, the lady in question's name is Fleur Jarman - and yes, she's lovely. Massively overworked and underpaid.

She is a telecoms billing genius - if anyone out there needs a telecoms billing expert - you could do a lot worse than to headhunt Ms Jarman.
