Car Insurance - Direct Line/Confused

Hi

I received my car insurance renewal from Direct Line, which seemed expensive. Tried Confused.com and then called direct line. Told them been quoted cheaper elsewhere and they reduced my premium by £75.

Advice - don't ever just automatically renew any insurance, a couple of calls/web checking saves you money. :D

Oh yes, renewals quotes are always high, trying to cash in on you not being bothered to look elsewhere.

I used to check my Direct Line premium every year and for 8 years no one could beat them.
I think I better check again next time around, £75 is a fair bit to save.

Don't forget quidco etc. The amount they give you in cashback is often sufficient to make switching worthwhile even if a competitiors price is the same.

Lets not tell everyone not just to renew though, as we need some people so subsidise those of us who switch every time

I've been with Direct Line a couple of years now, the renewal they sent me last year was higher than a direct quote on their website, but I also had a better quote from Churchill plus they were offering £100 Quidco cashback - spoke to Direct Line and the woman was sure she could do something as they're both part of RBS, she took about £200 off to get it down to within a fiver of what Churchill would've cost me after cashback - was worth forgoing a few quid for the instant saving and no faffing about switching :)

Coming up again next month, had a quick look at the weekend and Churchill were coming out a bit cheaper again so will be trying the same when renewal comes in, although unfortunately both are no longer on Quidco.

(£200 is a big saving, but bear in mind my paid premiums have been £1850 and £855 so those with more sensible premiums probably won't be as lucky!)

There is a whole section of this website dedicated to how to get the best deal on insurance.

Its not called moneysavingexpert for no reason. ;)
