Partner Stays Here 2 Nights Pw Is That Classed As Living Here For Child Tax Purposes?

My partner is a long distance lorry driver and therefore lives in his lorry Monday - Friday. He stays here occasional weekends but has his own property that has all his belongings etc in it. He is thinking moving here and giving notice on his tenancy but will only be here for 2 nights a week. Is that classed as living together for child tax credit purposes?
There are only two things a child will share willingly - communicable diseases and their mother's real age

  • Is your partner the father of your children?
    Do you holiday together?
Does he contribute to your household?

If he moves in he will be classed as living there, it does not matter how many nights he spends there, you need to claim as a couple.

The DWP/Inland Revenue have no set amount of nights that a partner can stop over. In other words there is no clear guidelines so you could be classed as being a couple even though you do not live together depending on many factors.

The fact you call him your partner suggests that you are in a serious relationship so you need to tread carefully.

Well he isn't going to get his mail posted to whichever truckstop he is kipping in is he? If he gives up 'his' house then his permanent address will be yours and yes it will count...

My husband works nights and usually only has two nights at home. We take separate holidays him fishing me with mum so does that mean i could get extra. I doubt it.

You refer to him as your "partner" - therefore YOU think of him as your partner. Is there any reason whatsoever that the rest of the world should not consider him in the same manner?
