Hi everyone! Basically i have been selling al my unwanted possesions on ebay in an attempt to reduce my debts and it has been going very well:D
I have now run out of things to sell (i am literally down to bare essentials) but really want to carry on ebaying! Has anyone else found a way around this?
I was thinking about going to car boot sales to find bargains that i can then put up on ebay?
Thanks for any help and feel free to tell me to just stop my ebay addiction!:rotfl:

Thanks for that! I hadn't considered tax implications and trader status's, not really something i want to get into either!
From the link you gave me and the subsequent links from that, the basic message is you can sell personal items like i have been but not trade?
Anyway thanks for the heads up!On the long haul for a house deposit!0 -

Yep, all your personal stuff you've bene selling is absolutely fine, no problem at all and no tax implications. Start trading by buying at car boots or whatever and selling on and then it gets complicated.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thicko question here but how would the tax people know it isn't your own personal stuff?
by he way I'm not planning it, sold about 15 things in 3 years and can't be bothered, was just interested. You may walk and you may run

Read the replies in the link that was put up - basically its a bit of a grey area, but if you are selling new items repeatedly then chances are you are a trader. All transactions in ebay are logged, so an audit trail is built up over time which can be trawled later.0 -

I think a bit of common sense would be applied by HMRC - if the majority of items are used single items, then fair enough - likely to be a personal clear out.
It is when people list multiple items all the same, and all new, then it's suspicious.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
There was a thread on the seller forum several months ago which suggested an odd pattern of sales would trigger HMRC to ask questions. In the case I recall the seller was buying second hand clothes and selling them on, but they were all different sizes, different ages and quite a lot of things in total and they were hard pressed to explain how the managed to have so much stuff in all sorts of sizes hanging around.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Are you a member of your local freecycle (www.freecycle.org). On my local one people often give away "box of car boot stuff", which could just as easily be ebayed.0

Hi, Try charity shops! The ones in good areas have some brilliant stuff, and also named bargains. One near me even gets new things donated with tags still on. A quick wash, and you're ready to go.Wedding outfits (brides mother type) always seem to go well, and usually only worn once---Happy selling!0
