Well, I've seen my first butterflies of the year this morning!!! :j
Can't recall ever having seen them so early in the year before (does this mean we're in for a great summer?) and last year numbers were well down!
The first was a large one with bright yellowy-green wings but the second was much smaller and too far away for me to clearly identify but appeared to brownish in colour.
Off to find that site we used last year to identify them.
The large yellow one I saw was a Brimstone.

WOW I haven't seen any butterflies yet but I'll start keeping an eye out for them. Thankyou for the link to the site, I've never got a clue which butterfly is which but now I'll be able to keep track

I've seen 2 bumble bee's (the dog just tried to catch one in the garden  ) and a couple of honey bee's so far
Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0 -

Red Admiral and Tortoiseshell this last week.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I was sitting in the garden this morning in the beautiful sunshine, drinking coffee with my mother and a big tortoise shell butterfly fluttered by. It lifted our day.
We were shocked, too.
A big bumble bee was buzzing around the forsythia by us, too.

There have been quite a lot around this week with the really warm weather we've had! I've seen tortoiseshells, red admirals and more of the brimstones I saw at the weekend.
Also noticing lots of ladybirds around this year too, which is fantastic!!

No butterflies here yet, but we've seen quite a few ladybirds too (though we saw plenty throughout the winter, as they seemd to want to hibernate in our house).~Chameleon~ wrote: »Also noticing lots of ladybirds around this year too, which is fantastic!!
Unfortunately, they are now all the invaders; I couldn't be sure I'd seen one of our native ladybirds for a year or two.0 -
Not sure what the butterfly was but saw one on my heather yesterday :j:wave:0
