How I Did It....

Got 2 hours to kill at work, so thought I would bore you all to death :0)
How I Did It....
* Took a 2nd job to fit in around my full time position.
* Took lunches into work
* Downgraded my bank account = £5 a month richer.
* Cancelled protection on Credit Cards = £5 a month richer (if not more)
* Stopped buying magazines and "borrowed" them from my 2nd job.
* Found this site (and fool.co.uk) which has been a godsend - saved SOO much money using discounts/money off codes. It also kept me going when I was fed up, stressed & could think of nothing but money.
* Started buying clothes in Charity Shops, Primark, Ebay - all started selling items on Ebay.
* Started batch cooking at home & meal planning
All sounds quite boring & run of the mill really - and I didnt achieve it any different to other people who are on their way to debtfree-ness!! To be honest, it wasnt a lot of fun, and I cant pretend that I did still go out & have fun, because to be honest, my life WAS on hold, and my main aim was to be debt free, which didnt leave much time for having a social life/relationship - it was hard work, but I got there in the end!!
You do need to strike a balance between having a life and being debt free - it might take longer, but you do need a life in the meantime.
As you all know I am still saving hard at the moment for my trip, so am still applying the same principles, still on here, and will always be a MSE through and through (even managed to get my flight, backpack, & a trip in Oz at a reduced price thanks to some of the things Ive learnt on here), so will make you all proud and go travelling as cheaply as I can, but still have some fun!!
You are all doing SOOOOO well - keep up the good work!!

Ms London, Just a thought. You could add to your signature how much of your £10k for travelling you have amounted, in the same way as people count down their debts. It may prove motivational?

Hiya
I think your one of the first people I saw on here who had become debt free when posting on here for the first time around October 2005 (and one of the first inspirational people really!)
I always see you replying with good helpful posts (and like you today i've got time to kill at work! Always sneaking on here when i'm meant to be working too!)
This site has been a godsend for me really and I will hopefull get rid of my debt in about three years by following all the basic principles you have stated and what i've learnt on here!
So on we go to debtfreeness!
Oh save really really really hard Ms L cos with all that money i'm sure you'll have a fab time!!
LLIn debt no more!0 -

How long to become debt free?0

Thanks Ms London, you have definitely kept me motivated by your great replies and the fact you are now debt free. I was only wondering yesterday how you were going with your travel fund. So again another member who thinks it would be a great idea if you could let us know your progress.0

Hi Ms_London
Well done, you have done soooo well.
Am def interested in getting a second job to pay off debts quicker however the one thing that puts me off is the tax? Isn't it really high on a 2nd job?"It's not easy being me...!" :wave:0 -
I am doing extra shifts at work when I can and that pay is dealt with by a seperate department, I have a different payroll number for these shifts too. It is classed as a 2nd job and I pay basic rate tax - 22% on all these earnings.Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T0
