Frozen Wii

On start up the Wii looks normal but the cursor freezes over one of 'the squares' and no option can be selected; cursor cannot be moved. We have tried the remotes with other's Wii - no problem so the problem seems to be with the unit itself. Tried resetting and the classic 'turn it off...' to no avail.
I didn't buy this - the kids received it as a gift from and aunt and uncle xmas 2007.
No idea what to do - presume I will hand it back to the purchaser to sort as I don't know where it was bought unless anyone knows better than me?
I assume, as it's over 12 months old, it will be out of guarantee anyway. Any thoughts guys?
Many thanks!

You sound like a girl after my own heart!
Basically I was wondering if anyone else had had a simialr problem which was simply solved (as opposed to going back to shop).
Might add kids are teenies and haven't done anything 'silly' to it BTW!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

This has happened to my Wii, the best thing to do is send it back to Nintendo, you can do it online here.
My is the same age as yours and Nintendo are fixing it for free, hopefully I will get mine back this week0 -

This happened to me this morning and I did the same things you did but to no avail. Then my partner looked at the Nintendo search page and found the answer. Sunlight interferes with the signal!!! I closed the curtains and now it's working fine!My message to that greedy wunch of bankers:
Debts another fine mess you got us into!
