Alternative To HSBC Premier

Hi,
This is my first post so welcome me aboard the board!
I've searched the site to see whether this is answered anywhere but haven't found an answer.
I moved from First Direct to HSBC approx 4 years ago as they offered me a free Premier account.
I'd never had a problem with FD (in 10 years) but since moving to HSBC have had loads of problems that I've had to use my RM and the 08457 No to resolve - they've also payed me a few hundred pound in compensation as they've been so poor.
I've now rec'd a letter stating that they want to downgrade me to a normal account or I can pay £25 pm to stay as a Premier customer.
I don't want a standard accont as no direct contact to resolve the next problems I expect to enconter but equally don't want to spend £300 pa for an acct.
I'm looking at alternatives and wondered what you're suggestions and/or recommendations are. I would like something like a Premier account but must admit that's purely for appearances and that's not like me! I'm interested in FD owing to previous excellent service but appreciate that I won't qualify for the £100 as I'm an old customer - tbh I just want a decent account.
I'm not looking to invest heavily (certainly not at the mo') but have a decent(ish) salary and am always in credit.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If all you want is a decent account, and you're not bothered about any cash incentives, then you can't do any better than go back to First Direct. Its reputation for having excellent service is supported by lots of people on here, -and confirmed by your own experience. They don't have a premier account, but their little black card has a certain kudos of its own.0

Cheers for the prompt response EB,
My thoughts are just to go back to FD owing to my experience. I only wanted to 'test the water' re other companies as I haven't actually looked at alternative bank accounts for c15 years and things can change in the financial markets and I don't want to miss anything.
I wish I was just joking about the card but I do like the 'Premier' on the HSBC card although I'd be more than happy with a FD card!0 -
If you don't need anything in particular go back to FD is my opinion0

Initially moving the DDs and SOs - they managed to move only 2 of about 12 and I defaulted on numerous payments, even getting my mobile disconnected as they couldn't sort it out. The amount of time and hassle I had calling the companies to explain it wasn't my fault and trying to clear my credit record was ridiculous and costly from a mobile to 0845/0870 No's.
Changing my card, not because it had expired but because they wanted to change the design/colour twice - once before christmas and once before I went on holiday for three weeks, without any kind of warning.
Loads more problems but I can't be @rsed explaining them all.
5678 - FD looks like the way I'll be going. I had no money when I was with them but it didn't affect the excellent service and support they provided me, unlike previous accounts with TSB and Nat West.0
