Car is 55 plate Daewoo/Chevrolet Lacetti - milage on clock is 27.000.
was doing my tyre pressure's and noticed that the near side back wheel was very hot and the other 3 were just warm. Does this signify wheel bearing has gone?? car has disk brakes all round and wheel and disk and even the wheel bolts were very hot. Decided to ask on here so i know what to expect when i take it into garage for them to fix it.

Sounds like it could be. Other thing it might be is a binding brake.

It might still be in just in warranty? If not and it is the bearing you might manage to get a goodwill gesture as a bearing shouldn't go in this time. I suspect that they won't do it for a binding brake but you never know. Perhaps sending it to the dealer might still be best shouldn't cost too much either way (famous last words!).

ahh binding break that sounds possible, i tell you why.
when i,m on a incline i can hear the breaks straining/creaking as i pull away.
unless that doesn't sound like a binding brake lol??

Do wheel bearing get replaced in pairs, or am i ok in getting 1 side done if it is indeed that what's the problem??

Best way to find out if it is a binding brake is to pull up on a very slight gradient with all brakes off, does the car roll?
  • You can get one side done, no need to replace both.

You should jack the corner up, grasp the wheel at the top and bottom, and attempt to move it. It shouldn't move.

I'd say it was more likely to be brake related, you'd hear a wheel bearing grinding away if that was the problem.

Sounds more likley to be the break than bearing with all that heat. A duff bearing is unlikely to produce alot of heat but will produce a noise (hum or rumble).

With bearings it good pratice to replace both at the same time because it's almost inevitable that the other one is going to go. But on the other hand there is no real advantage price wise because 2 is twice the parts and twice the labour ie no labour saving getting both done at the same time.

ah well i,lll o and get it looked at if they say breaks then i know i'm not being seen off. It's nice to be able to be armed with info.

When you say binding brake related i take it you mean something too do with cable etc and not the brake pads/caliper/hose etc....

It may be the cable, or the actual brake mechanism itself, you will only find out when the garage look closely at it.

Well got opinion from garage and they said it's the Calliper piston seizing and too fix it will cost £220 with vat
and fitting. Now i asked about a Calliper service kit and was told they only do fix and replace work.
So i'm wondering are there places around that can service my Calliper rather than replace it that would make the cost
of the job a lot cheaper by taking off Calliper relaicing worn/damaged piston+seals etc.
    What do you's reckon??

ask another garage to quote on the work, that seems a bit expensive.
