just had an intriguing mailshot from e.on, claiming i can get 8% lower bills than british gas' standard ual fuel bill, up to May 2010, AND get tesco clubcard points?
small text reads based on ave. elec usage of 3,300kWh and above, and ave gas 20,500kWh and above... pay monthly by d/d, or promptly 1/4ly (cash/cheque)..
noy available on prepayment or restricted hours meters..
seems enticing, though I do wonder how they got my details, as on MPS for no mail, etc.. i doubt BG would give customer details to their rivals?

It could be via anyone to whom you have previously provided your name & address.
Eon don't know that you are supplied gas by BG on their standard tariff, but as BG is the legacy supplier and still has the lions share of the market, so they just struck lucky with you.
Eon choose BG as the gas supplier to compare against possibly because BG are the best known gas supplier, or probably because as the legacy supplier BG are restricted by regulation from offering a too competitive tariff.
If you are thinking of switching, use the comparison sites in the resource bar above to identify the cheapest supplier for you.
Note Martin's caution about switching at present. With suppliers currently announcing price changes, you could be misled to choosing a supplier that is cheapest today, but may not be the cheapest by the time the switch actually takes place.
Also be aware that dual fuel options (taking both gas & electricity from same supplier) is not always the cheapest option. When using the comparison sites, check also if you could get a better deal from two different suppliers."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Looks like one of those annual discount tariffs again. If so, it sort of commits to you at least 12 months on it to realise any savings...Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
No annual only discounts or leaving penalty, Carmine. But it's only 8% below BG's standard price and has high standing charges (so only for those with average or higher consumptions). If you use that much, then you should look for online dual fuel tariffs or even single tariffs from different suppliers - either of which should be much cheaper than 8%.0

Do Eon not publish their prices on their own website?
I've looked for a 20 minutes with no success. You seem to have to call them to view your prices or "get a quote"
Even the FAQ's advise you to check your bill: http://www.eonenergy.com/FAQ/Bill-Queries/Current-Prices.htm0 -

I signed up for Track and Save due it it coming out on energyhelpline.com as the cheapest E.O.N Tariff for me as a extremely low user with NO Standing charge.
My heart missed a few beats at the thought of paying a gas standing charge when i wont be using any gas for the time that im with E.O.N :eek:E.ON

Well, I'd call that a 120% monthly standing charge of up to £9.80 for gas and £2.75 for electricity. (For every £1 of gas you use in summer you pay an extra £1.19 in standing charges.) So they've flipped the charges about - they normally charge more than £12 for electricity per month. You'd have to be as frugal as me with the gas to avoid paying the lot - that's just one unit per day.
When I compared it cost the same within pennies to their other online tariff (but, of course, that's using supermarket style pricing - you have to take off the 17.5% dual discount to be competitive.)
I think you should look around and see how much you would save with each fuel from separate companies.0 -

Trust me, KY, BLF is more than frugal with gas consumption - he actually doesn't use any. Zilch. Seriously. And he's switched to Eon for cashback purposes.Call me Carmine....

Ah, hadn't noticed it was the BLF. The other drawback with E-on wrt serial switching is that they don't give you a discount on the final bill. Not a problem if they apply that rule monthly but it is a problem if applied quarterly.0
