Amazon Marketplace A-Z Guarantee Claim

Options
I have a very minor claim going through Amazon marketplace. I ordered a book (at 1p plus P&P, not a massive investment) but received the wrong book.

I had contacted the seller twice before putting in a claim, but didn't receive a reply - hence escalating it to a claim.

I received a message from the seller today, saying that they can refund me or send a replacement, but that I would have to close the claim with Amazon in order for them to proceed. To quote the email, "otherwise they may refund you before we have finished processing your issue." Apparently I can "restart the claim at a later date if I wish."

I'm just wondering whether the latter part is true - can I restart my claim? I'm not particularly fussed about this claim in particular, I just wondered for future reference. This is my first claim through Amazon, and (unbelievably!) their process seems even more opaque than PayPal's.

I'm not particularly up to date with Amazon A-Z claims I'll ask your quetsion on the main Amazon thread in case anyone has it bookmarked.

However it doesn't strike me as correct that they can't do anything until the claim is stopped and the fact that they ignored you in the first place rather suggests the seller isn't perhaps as good as we would hope. Any decent seller would be horrified at such a mistake and would almost certainly have got the correct book out to you immediately rather than risk poor feedback.

  • Sounds dodgy to me. They can refund you instantly, which will delete the A-Z guarantee claim - this is also good for you as it will no longer count against you.

You cannot be refunded twice for the same item.

If you want them to send the correct book and they are really worried that Amazon might refund whilst it is in transit - then why not ask them to refund you, they can then relist the book and you can buy it again - that way if they don't follow through you can still put in the A-Z claim and Amazon won't refund against the new purchase.

    Hope that makes sense.
