Higher Yield Investments

Hi

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this higher yield investment.

I don't have a clue about it, but my dad has said that he is using this as some kind of strategy. All I know is that he has lost thousands in the last year or so and I was wondering if he should stick with this (he's a bit stuborn) or go and speak to his bank.

He mentioned this sight and someone called Head Vestor (strange name) going on about how he can make loads of money, take an income and pay no tax or something like that.

Am quite worried as he's now talking about equity release or something like that to make up the money he's lost.

If Head Vestor (or anyone else) could shed some light on this then it would be helpful.

Thanks (if you understood what i'm on about as I don't and he doesn't.

Regards

Darcy

HYP - High Yield Portfolio. Definitely mentioned on here as the next best thing to sliced bread by EdInvestor.

Best speak to an IFA rather than a bank. He could end up out of the frying pan into the fire.

Does sound like Ed - always talking up the positives and talking down the negatives.

Get him to see an IFA.

Did he arrange this all himself as in DIY?

Head Vestor = Edinvestor ? LOL

If your dad mentioned this site he would also be aware of the number of warnings over risk being taken that also appeared on those threads. Just look at the thread Jem linked to as an example.

I just looked up the HYP that I stored in financial express many moons ago from an thread on the subject to highlight its potential negatives. That was back then. Its now down 45.4% in 2 years which is more than the stockmarket in general has dropped (FTSE all share down 30.8% in same period). HYPs tended to be heavy in banks so have taken a bigger hit. HYPs were flavour of the month with the DIY crowd in the good years because funnily enough they did well in good times. Loads of back slapping went on at Motley Fool about how good they were for doing so well. I havent looked recently but I doubt there is the same good vibes now.

The strategy can actually work over the long term and with a wide enough spread but it is higher risk.

  • Hi

    Thanks for your help.

My dad did it all himself - he had a few shares from years ago that he got when the government sold the companies so went through a stock share man to buy them

I doubt that he would have read the risks I think he was bowled over by all the money that he could make and stupidly went on to do it himself.

I've had to tell my mum and she went bananas - the money was from his pension and she wanted to get a new kitchen and conservatory from it rather then throw it down the pan.

What's an IFA and how do I find the best one?

    Thanks again
