HSBC Overdraft

Hi,

I have applied to increase my overdraft on my HSBC plus account via the internet.

My question is this - IF it is approved, which i doubt it will be. Will it show straight away? Or does it show the next day?

Thanks

  • does it not give a pre-approved figure first?
  • I dont think so?
It just said something like choose an increase upto £5000 (I think) in multiples of £50.
Then about the fact that it will be credit scored etc etc.
dont remember seeing a pre-approved limit

No. This is Hbos that do that. HSBC have a screen that states stage 1 of 4 and lets you increase/decrease/cancel overdraft (stage 1), then you put in amount you'd like upto a maximum of 5k in 50 multiples plus the term from 5-12 months (stage 2), then you accept terms and any fee (stage 3) and finally submit (stage 4).

If successful it authorises it there and then and applies it immediately and in 'my messages' you get a copy of the o/d terms.

If it is thinking, i.e. manual decision then it will not show anything. Best way to know whether it's been approved is by clicking on the account, then click amend overdraft and if it states it cannot amend due to current application in progress then it has not been looked at.

If it takes you to stage 1 again, and within account details the o/d amount hasn't changed you know it's been declined. They don't send a message to 'my messages' if they decline - they write to you.

LOL - hope this helps...... that's factual cos I done one, got approved instantly, done another got referred and checked a day later and wouldn't let me reapply, however that night it let me reapply but old limit was still there. I cancelled out of application - obviously it would decline me again as it was the same day!

You'll know either way within 48hrs.

No worries.... have you been declined then, surely you'd have an answer by now?

I got an ok for the first £500 but anything after that it just rejected, lol, fair enough! Was only testing the system more than wanting the o/draft. Its handy though....

But if you don't need it this time isn't that a bit of a waste of the free arrangement? i.e if they had actually approved one of your subsequent tests they would have charged you £25 because it was within 6 months of the free one, or am I reading their price list wrong?
  • I'd really like to know what the maximum OD is that HSBC would give me. But I guess there is no way of finding that out?

Which banks show you your preapproved limits?

I have an ancient HBOS account that I never use. I just checked and for the first time ever it is actually offering me a "Guaranteed" OD limit. Of £100. LOL......

Thats the one - Hbos always show you what they will give you, it changes weekly so check it regular. Someone on here said one minute they got offered £500 then a month later £2800 LOL so big differences depends how you run the account I guess

They will give a max of £5k according to their site but as SS mentioned earlier, it's unlikely they will tell you what they will give you unless you actually qualify and apply first

Nah cos I arranged in advance with the branch that due to the problems i'd had i'm going to play with the system and return my o/d back to the original state. However, not to charge me each time. They agreed and I have this in email black and white as proof......

  • what od limit did you get out of HSBC in the end Mil?

I now have one with £200 (Plus) and the new current a/c plus gave me £0. I applied online and got yes at £500 but no at higher amount. I then reduced back to £0 in line with my promise to the branch but have since upped it back to the £500 which was instand decision again, maybe they don't actually erase it if you lower any o/d.... i.e. if you went to increase to say £1k, got authorised but a month later changed back to £500, it would still allow you to amend upto that £1k prior to doing a new search? I dunno but seems likely....
Do you have a backup account? i am still searching for the right backup account...

Yea I have a couple of Lloyds and Barclays (basic only but full visa not electron) and my 2nd HSBC account (advance)
Remind me - did you get the HSBC CC or not?

Nah, tight sods said wait 6mth! LOL

  • I'm really loving HSBC. Are you?

Considering they are the only bank that allowed me the chance to 'prove' myself I love em! I'll always stand by that, every other fukka refused me - one application, one yes with HSBC.

    Love it....

Did you have past and struggled to get full account or different circs..?
