What benefits am I entitled to if any?

Options
I suffer from perfume and chemical allergies and I am unable to work due to these problems as these could be fatal for me. I have tried to claim disability but have been refused because I do not meet the criteria.

Are there any benefits that I could claim. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Whcih benefits have you been refused?

I would have thought you would be able to claim incapacity benefit as you are unable to work due to your allergies. Or if not, then you will be able to claim income support.

Make an appt with your local job centre to discuss what you may be entitled to.

Is your gp willing to certify you as sick?

    They have online calulations...
    MFWB
    Mortgage when started: £232,000
    Current mortgage Sept 2024: £232,000
    Mortgage free day: Sept 2029

    Saving: £12k 2025
  • I applied for disability living allowance and had my appeal yesterday and they said I didn't meet the criteria.
  • You can make a claim to Income Support/Incapacity Benefit. Incapacity benefit can be claimed for 1 week without a sicknote, but if you looking to claim for longer than that you are required to have a sicknote from your GP stating you are unfit for work, without it you will be looking at a claim for Job Seekers Allowance

If unable to work you will not be entitled to JSA.

There is not enough info to say what you may get.
Incapacity is based on contributions paid, so you must have worked during the last two tax years (2004 and 2005)
Income support would only be payable if you had no working partner to support you, AND had a medical cert for the IB claim (which pays the NI stamp)
Allergies aren't usually considered an illness, so it will be hard work to claim, but the CAB will help.
The Disability employment advisor at the Jobcentre may be able to point you to jobs where chemicals are not about, or provide fresh air blowers to enable you to work, even if only part time.

    Good luck.

I quit my job after the company relocated in June so finished the end of June after working my notice. Does anyone know what I can start claiming job seekers allowance or if I am entitled to anything else?, I heard a rumour that you have to wait 28 weeks before you can claim.

    Cheers

    Mike,

Best to start your own thread rather than pull up one that is 2 years old.

I don't know the answer but I am sure that someone will be along soon.

    Welcome to mse mike!

There is a sanction if you give up your job voluntarily but it can sometimes be appealed - depends on the full circumstances.

You will get a much better response if you start a new thread.

You wont get DLA unless you have care or mobility needs. Also if there is any job you could possibly do then you are going to struggle to get incapacity; you also need to have paid enough national insurance. You may need to get a disability advisor at the job centre to see if they can find you any work to do that doesn't put you at risk.
