Travelodge - Possible Takeover by Whitbread

Having just booked a couple of days away at a Travelodge for £36, I read with dismay in today's Sunday Times business section that Whitbread are considering a £1 billion takeover of Travelodge.
I used to stay at TL's from about 15 years ago, when they were an affordable £25 per night to about 10 years ago. Different owners over the years pushed the price up to around £50 per room and I stopped using them but these new saver deals have tempted me back.
Whitbread's Premier Travel Inn's would have cost £102 for two nights, a silly amount for this kind of accomodation in my opinion. To quote from their website: "And if it's value for money you're after, you're in luck - Premier Travel Inn rates start at just £46.95 per room, per night." Yeah right!
From a purely selfish perspective I hope this deal gets scuppered at the start and the TL deals continue. :T
After typing the above I also read in the same newspaper about the new Travelodge Director of Sleep - Great job and 60 grand a year!
