  • i think if you transfer the balance, your wife will need to be an additional cardholder on that account.

  • get your wife to write a letter with a doctors note accompanying it, take it to the nationwide and then they will give you details- then, whilst in the branch with the help of the staff, ring up, get the balance moved and hey presto it should be yours.

I used to work A&L and we did this once for a man who was in hospital for ages and couldn't write- the doctor had to write and say so- it took a week or so though- and a lot of phone calls.

hope this helps and is still up to date info.

debt collecting agencies will often accept a reduced payment to clear the debt... original lender are mere resistant.

You could of course offer less

But make sure you get it in writing...make sure it says its in final settlement of the debt and try to get them to mark her credit file as settled (you may not be successful with the last but getting it in writing is essential)

I would suggest she gets copies of her credit files to see what damage in on them and likewise yourself.

It totally depends on the lender. I transferred some of my sister's debt and she did beed to be on the account. HTH.

Which lender asked you to do this? Would be good to have a list.

Even if the original owner of the debt is an additional cardholder on the account they are still no longer responsible for the debt. Only the new account holder is responsible for the debt once it is transferred.
