Coventry BS - 5.10% Current account

Options
Very interesting little flyer came with my mortgage statement. CBS are starting a current account with a 5.10% AER (just shy of 5% gross) interest rate paid monthly of which 0.85% is a 1 year bonus. The deal is that you pay in £1000 a month from a non-CBS source to get the rate.

The nice thing is that there appears to be no practical limit (well, 250K) to the amount you can put in, so it looks to me like a decent savings account as well.

One drawback is that you can't have a chequebook, but all other banking facilities seem to be available.

No obvious inducements at present, apart from the rate. But looks pretty good to me.

Very interesting indeed. nothing on the website yet.
Does the flyer say if you will be able to set up direct debits into/out of the account?

It's still a pilot and currently only available at some branches, not [yet] over the phone.

  • I spoke to someone in branch about this a few months ago just when the rumour had reached them, and there is not going to be an overdraft facility either, which is obviously a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it :D

That was all rumour though, so whether it turns out to be true we will have to see.....

5.1% is pretty nice though :)
