Qinetiq shares are being floated soon but the general public will not be able to take part.
Does anyone have an opinion as to whether this company which is valued at over a billion pounds will be a good investment for the institutions that will end up buying all the shares.

But the general public will be able to take part now, as a campaign has been successful
Contact Hargreaves Lansdown if you wish to apply for shares.

Interesting articles in The Times few weeks back, did you see comments about civil servants not having managed the business very well - it has been starved of funds / loss direction - current owners are only floating 20% this time round.

Hargreaveslansdown's min purchase is £2500.
If you just want to invest little in the share market, try Halifax IPO, min purchase is only £250

If you already have Halifax sharedealing account, your application can be deferred to 8-Feb

Well it certainly was for the management!!
Being a bit of a cynic I would advise you to be cautious with all of this talk that it was sold to the management on the cheap- any free publicity is good publicity but had you heard of this before this month? I hadn't and the aggro in the papers will only fuel an initial buying frenzy which will push the initial trading price up but IMO in short term not many small shareholders will make a lot of money on it.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I heard on working lunch that a couple of brokers were attempting to act on behalf of their clients but that there was no guarantee that these applications would be successful. Hargreaves want to charge a £15 fee whether the application is successful or not and then the shares will be kept in a special nominee account and could be sold for 1%, maximum £50 commission. Just had a quick look at the Halifax and they would appear to be far less greedy with no initial charge and much lower commission if sold online.
I'm tempted by this one but there are a number of associated issues that are slightly offputting. With my record on share dealings over the last 10 years I really ought to forge ahead with this one as my gut feelings have historically been completely wrong :-)PLEASE DO NOT STEAL

Anything sold by the Government is always sold off too cheapSurvivor of debt, redundancy, endowment scams, share crashes, sky-high inflation, lousy financial advice, and multiple house price booms. Comfortably retired after learning to back my own judgement.
This is not advice - hopefully it's common sense..0 -

.....Not sure if British Energy and Railtrack shareholders would necessarily agree :-)PLEASE DO NOT STEAL
