Comparethemarket.com - Chat Room Advertising

Options
Someone has been going in to chat rooms, setting their name as the naff meerkat from the latest ad and sending pm's to all the people in the room suggesting that they use the website.

If anyone has experience of this, please post here as I believe that this is a breach of FSA principles (1 and 5, with the possibility of 6 if the FSA had not watered down TCF).

Without evidence of wrongdoing, I cannot report the firm to the FSA, so if anyone has screenprints showing date and time of the offence and the website concerned, that would assist.

Thank you

Please note that the action I propose to take here in reporting the firm to the FSA is done as a private individual who is concerned about the perception of the insurance industry and not in any way, shape or form connected to any insurance intermediary or firm. I am happy to stand on my own two feet and not hide behind a company.
In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move.

    Are you sane?

Also, I get a lot of emails asking for my bank details as I have won $80,000,000,000,000,000 - can you investigate these please?

I really like the 'compare the meercat' advert. Makes me laugh everytime, which is a first for anything related to insurance.
  • The advert is fine; it's their marketing practices that I object to.

From the tone of his posts, which are usually spot on, I'm fairly sure he's sane.

I tend to agree with his actions here. Any insurer or insurance intermediary that lets some junior marketing exec loose on the internet like this without subjecting the promotions to the necessary compliance checks must be a pretty amateurish operation.
  • Thanks Raskazz.

Ok, for the rest of you, here is what I am talking about:

    PRIN 2.1.1(R) Rule 1:

A firm must conduct its business with integrity.

    PRIN 2.1.1(R) Rule 5:

A firm must observe proper standards of market conduct.

The information I have been provided with so far is that someone entered at least one chat room and sent messages to approximately 130 people suggesting that they visit the price comparison website. This ignored the rules of the website concerned as well as advertising regulations. This brings the industry into disrepute and breaches both the above principles.

Feel free to disagree, but please don't post pointless attacks and stupid comments.
